Local Insights
Roxbury is a small but active community with a population of 430, and it sits within a larger regional market that supports continued demand for home projects. A steady growth rate of 0.50% annually means construction and landscaping activity typically increase incrementally rather than in sudden surges, so homeowners can expect a reliable flow of local suppliers, occasional new builds, and steady renovation work. Roxbury's climate—about 47.00 inches of rain a year, 215 sunny days annually, and a hardiness zone of 7b—shapes the kinds of materials that perform best here. Frequent precipitation and substantial sun exposure make proper drainage, erosion control, and UV- and moisture-resistant surface materials priorities. For homeowners that translates into a need for quality bulk supplies—well-graded aggregates for stable bases, clean topsoil for planting, sand for improving permeability, and organic mulches for moisture management. Regional sourcing also means textures and coloration reflect local geology, so choosing the right material mix matters for both performance and appearance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Prices vary by material type, local supplier, and delivery distance. Suppliers usually quote per ton or per cubic yard; many materials weigh between 1.2 and 1.7 tons per cubic yard depending on density. Use our online quote or calculator to get an exact price for gravel, sand, dirt, stone, or other aggregates in your zip code.
Most of our deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks that commonly carry about 10 to 12 cubic yards (roughly 12 to 15 tons for heavier materials). Actual capacity depends on truck size and material density, so your order confirmation will list the estimated yards or tons being delivered.
Cost depends on the material, the supplier, and the delivery distance and options you choose (standard vs next-day). To get an accurate price for 10 cubic yards, enter your zip code on our site or request a quote and we will show itemized pricing including any delivery fees.
Coverage depends on material density and desired depth. A good way to estimate is: cubic yards needed = (area in sq ft * depth in inches) / 324, then convert cubic yards to tons using a material-specific density (common range 1.2 to 1.7 tons/yd3). For example, at an average density of 1.4 tons/yd3, one ton is about 0.71 yd3 and will cover roughly 115 sq ft at 2 inches or about 57 sq ft at 4 inches.
Some big-box retailers offer bulk pickup or delivery in parts of Maine, but availability and delivery equipment vary by store and zip code. Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers and professional dump truck delivery, often with transparent pricing and scheduled delivery—check your zip code on our site to compare options.
Start by defining the project: driveway, patio base, drainage, garden beds, or erosion control, then consider factors like drainage needs, compaction, appearance, and budget. Local climate in West Maine (freeze-thaw and seasonal wetness) affects performance, so use our material quiz or contact our team for guidance on gravel, sand, dirt, stone, or blended mixes.
Standard delivery typically requires 2 or more business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout; drivers may perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed.
Clear a stable drop area with adequate width and turnaround for a dump truck, remove low-hanging branches or obstacles, and mark any sensitive areas you want avoided. Protect driveways and lawns with plywood if needed, and note delivery instructions in your order so drivers know where to dump the material.
Contact our team as soon as possible—changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed or dispatched. We will make our best effort to modify or cancel an order, but final adjustments depend on supplier and hauler status and cannot be guaranteed.
Yes. Winter freeze-thaw cycles, early spring mud, and heavy rains can affect delivery access and material performance. Plan projects ahead of peak seasons, expect possible weather-related delays, and ask our team for material recommendations suited to Roxbury’s local conditions.
Use our online calculator to estimate needs and add a waste and compaction allowance of 5 to 10 percent for most jobs. Contractors often order larger quantities to reduce trips and handling, while homeowners can order minimum loads (our minimum is generally 3 tons) to match smaller jobs.
A contracted dump truck will arrive and the driver will confirm the drop location, safety, and any tailgate spreading requests noted at checkout. Inspect the delivery, take photos if there is an issue, and contact our customer service promptly if something doesn’t match your order so we can help resolve it.
