Local Insights
North Belgrade is a small but active community with a city population of 2,950, located within a larger metro area of 603,000 people. The area’s measured growth rate of 0.50% annually points to steady, incremental development rather than a building boom, which translates to predictable, ongoing demand for landscaping and construction materials—from base stone and sand for driveways to topsoil and mulch for yards. With an annual rainfall of 47.00 inches and 215 sunny days per year in a hardiness zone of 7b, homeowners here often balance moisture management and plant-friendly soil needs. That combination favors materials that improve drainage, resist washout, and support planting beds and hardscapes. For DIYers and contractors alike, reliable, locally sourced bulk materials reduce the risk of project delays and ensure consistency with local geology and weather patterns.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Delivered prices vary by material type, quantity, and distance from local suppliers. As a ballpark, common aggregates in small-town West Maine can span a wide range, so the best way to get an accurate number is to request an online quote for zip 04917 using our calculator. That quote will reflect regional sourcing, truck type, and any delivery fees.
A standard tri-axle dump truck serving our area typically carries about 10 to 12 cubic yards, though actual capacity depends on material density. Pricing for a truckload is based on material type, weight, and distance from the supplier, so per-yard costs usually fall as order size increases. Contact our team or get a quote for a precise truckload price to North Belgrade.
A typical 2-car driveway (about 20 by 20 to 24 feet) needs roughly 5 to 8 cubic yards for a 4 to 6 inch depth before compaction. Add 10% to 20% extra to allow for compaction and settling, especially in Maine's freeze/thaw climate. Use our material calculator or get a custom quote to convert that quantity into a delivered price for your zip code.
Choose materials that promote drainage and resist frost heave; many local projects use a durable angular base and a suitable wearing layer on top. Because we source regionally, texture and color vary, so pick materials based on function (drainage, compaction, appearance) rather than name alone. If you are unsure, use our aggregate quiz or contact our sales team for recommendations tailored to West Maine conditions.
We work with local suppliers that serve many nearby zip codes, but availability can vary by material and supplier; check your zip code on our site to confirm service. Our minimum order is 3 tons, deliveries are typically made by tri-axle dump trucks, and delivery fees depend on distance and local supplier policies. Many areas offer free delivery, while others may have an extra charge reflected in the online quote.
Standard delivery requires 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Lead times do tend to lengthen in busy seasons and during winter when road restrictions and weather slow operations, so plan ahead for large or time-sensitive projects. Use the checkout calendar to select your preferred delivery date and confirm availability for your zip.
Yes, volume pricing and contractor discounts are commonly available through our network for large or recurring orders. Rates and scheduling options vary by supplier and project size, so contact our sales team for pricing tiers and to set up account-level billing or delivery windows. We can also help coordinate multiple truckloads and scheduled deliveries for bigger jobs.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout but it is not guaranteed. Full spreading and compaction are usually arranged separately with local contractors and will carry additional labor and equipment costs. If spreading is important, note it in your order and ask our team for local contractor referrals and cost estimates.
Plan to order roughly 10% to 20% more material than the theoretical volume to allow for compaction and winter settling, with the higher end recommended where freeze/thaw cycles are severe. For structural elements like bases and drainage layers, you may need deeper sections to avoid frost heave; consult our calculator or sales team for project-specific guidance. Adding that allowance up front helps avoid a second delivery and extra mobilization fees.
Picking up material can save on hauling costs if you have the right truck and time, but self-load options may include loading fees and require suitable equipment and permits. Delivered material includes trucking, labor, and the convenience of scheduled drop-off, which many homeowners find worth the cost—especially for multi-ton orders. Compare a site quote for delivery versus pickup pricing to decide which is more economical for your project.
