Local Insights
Mckee is a small but active community of 800 residents located within a growing West Kentucky metro that supports broader construction and landscaping demand tied to a 1.20% annual growth rate. That steady growth — not a sudden boom but consistent expansion — means homeowners are increasingly updating driveways, yards, and small-scale infrastructure over time rather than all at once. With 228 sunny days per year, 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b, local projects must balance sun, seasonal rain, and a generally mild winter climate. These conditions favor materials that manage both drainage and surface stability: well-graded aggregates for driveways and paths, stable base materials for structures, quality topsoil and organic mixes for planting, and durable surfacing for outdoor living areas. Regional sourcing also shapes texture and color, so selecting the right material mix has practical performance and aesthetic implications for long-term results. Local climate and soil patterns in Mckee create specific challenges for material performance. Moderate annual rainfall combined with frequent sunny days produces cycles of wetting and drying that can cause settlement, compaction, and erosion if drainage and compaction aren’t addressed. Hardiness zone 8b means many plants thrive, but they still need suitable topsoil and root-zone preparation. For homeowners, that means thinking beyond quantity: consider particle size, compaction characteristics, and organic content when choosing bulk materials. Hello Gravel helps by connecting you to local suppliers who understand these conditions, offering material calculators and expert guidance, and arranging scheduled deliveries so you get the right mix on the right day for your project.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Start with what the area will be used for (driveway, patio, garden bed, erosion control) and the load it will bear. Consider drainage and local climate when selecting between common options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone, then use Hello Gravel’s material calculator or contact the sales team for recommendations based on your site and budget. Regional sourcing means appearance and texture can vary, so note any color preferences in your order notes.
West Kentucky sees wet springs, freeze-thaw cycles, and areas of clay or loam soils that can hold water; these conditions affect compaction, drainage, and long-term stability. Choose materials and installation methods that promote drainage and resist washout, and plan for seasonal changes when scheduling delivery and installation. If you need help matching materials to local conditions, our team can advise based on typical regional performance.
Our bulk materials are used for driveways, access roads, patios, walkways, raised beds, backfill, and erosion-control measures common in rural and hilly properties. Both DIY homeowners and contractors use our platform to order the same materials for small landscaping jobs or larger site prep tasks. If you are unsure which materials suit a specific project, use the aggregate quiz or contact our experts for guidance.
Measure length, width, and desired depth, multiply area by depth, then divide by 27 to convert cubic feet to cubic yards (area in sq ft x depth in ft / 27 = cubic yards). Add 5-15% extra for compaction and waste depending on the project and material. Because weight varies by material, use Hello Gravel’s online calculator or request a quote to convert cubic yards to tons for ordering and pricing.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, with a next-day option available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Minimum orders start at 3 tons and deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets (usually tri-axle), with the ability to choose a preferred delivery date during checkout. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion; this service should be requested but is not guaranteed.
Yes. Rural routes, narrow roads, low bridges, seasonal weight limits, and local permitting or HOA rules can affect delivery. Share access details and any restrictions in the order notes and contact our team if you suspect permits or escorts are required so we can coordinate with the hauler. Additional fees or alternate delivery locations may be needed if access is limited.
Avoid scheduling major deliveries during very wet spring conditions or when freeze-thaw cycles make the site unstable, as trucks can get stuck and materials may not compact properly. Late spring through early fall is usually best for installation and compaction, but plan ahead since availability and road conditions can change seasonally. If your timeline is tight, consider the next-day delivery option and confirm access conditions before dispatch.
Clear vegetation and debris, grade the area to the desired slope, and install edging or forms where needed to contain material. For driveways and heavy-use areas, compact the subgrade and base in layers with the right equipment to prevent settling; homeowners should consider hiring a pro for compaction. Proper preparation reduces material needs and improves longevity.
Design grades to move water away from structures, add swales or drainage ditches where needed, and consider using geotextile or reinforcing layers on steep slopes to limit washout. Place more durable, well-draining materials in areas with concentrated runoff and use terraces or retaining features to slow water on steep sites. If unsure, provide site photos and measurements and our team can suggest suitable approaches.
Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons and standard delivery timing is reflected at checkout; exact fees for next-day service, long hauls, or lift fees for difficult access vary by supplier and route. Any potential extra charges will be shown in your quote or during checkout once we calculate distance and access requirements. If you need a detailed estimate, enter your zip code or contact our team for a personalized quote.
Contact the Hello Gravel team as soon as possible; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is dispatched to a hauler. We will do our best to modify or cancel orders depending on processing status, but changes after dispatch may not be possible and could incur fees. Always confirm site access and delivery notes early to reduce the need for last-minute changes.
Because we source materials regionally, texture, size, and color can vary based on local geology, so the delivered product may not exactly match online images. If appearance is critical, include color or texture preferences in your Order Notes and contact customer service with photos if the material differs significantly from what you expected. Our team will work with the supplier to address concerns in line with our policies.
