Local Insights
Sedan is a small, tight‑knit community of 1,360 residents within a broader West Kansas metro area of 2.5+ million people. Its modest 0.40% annual growth points to steady, incremental construction and landscaping demand rather than boom cycles—homeowners are more likely to pursue targeted upgrades, maintenance projects, and occasional new builds. With 228 sunny days per year, 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b, local projects need materials that balance sun exposure and episodic rain: durable surface aggregates for driveways, water‑managing soils and sands for grading and drainage, mulches and topsoils that conserve moisture, and erosion‑control solutions for slopes. These regional conditions favor long‑lasting, low‑maintenance choices, so sourcing quality bulk materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone, and mulch directly affects project lifespan and performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Costs vary based on material type, quantity, and distance from local suppliers. For Sedan and surrounding West Kansas areas, expect the total to include material price plus a delivery fee and possible rural or off-road surcharges; remote addresses can raise the delivery portion. The fastest way to get a reliable estimate is to check your zip code on our site or request a quote for your exact address and quantity.
Choose materials based on drainage needs, expected traffic, and slope rather than a single product type. For load-bearing areas pick well-graded, angular aggregates that drain well; for walkways and decorative beds, finer, stable materials are easier to finish; for erosion control choose heavier, coarse materials and proper reinforcement. Local soils and freeze-thaw cycles in Greenwood County matter, so consult our material quiz or sales team to match performance to your project.
Spring through early fall is generally best for deliveries and installs to avoid frozen or overly wet ground. Standard delivery requires 2+ business days lead time and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST, but always allow extra time for seasonal demand and local weather. If your site is muddy or frozen, consider postponing until conditions stabilize to avoid access problems and poor compaction.
Most suppliers serving Sedan follow a minimum order rule of about 3 tons and deliver with dump trucks (typically tri-axle). Suppliers may limit how far they will travel without a remote delivery fee, and narrow or rough access can add a surcharge or require a smaller truck. Before ordering, check service availability for zip 67361, note any gate or road restrictions, and ask about remote-delivery fees.
Measure length, width, and desired depth in feet, multiply them, then divide by 27 (L x W x depth ÷ 27) to get cubic yards. For example, a 100 ft by 10 ft driveway at 3 inches deep is about 9.26 cubic yards. Remember that converting cubic yards to tons depends on material density, so use our online calculator or contact our team for a tons estimate.
Local requirements vary: driveway replacements that affect a county road, culvert, or right-of-way often require permits or inspections from Greenwood County or the city of Sedan. HOAs may also have rules about surface materials, drop locations, or timing of work. Check with Greenwood County public works and your HOA before ordering, and contact our team if you need help identifying local contacts.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout but it is not guaranteed. Drivers will assess site conditions and safety on arrival, and most deliveries are simply dumped in a single pile. If you need precise placement or spreading, plan for additional labor or hire a landscaper locally.
Because we source materials locally, texture and color will reflect West Kansas geology and can vary from photos or samples from other regions. Performance characteristics like drainage and compaction are similar within product types, but small differences in stone hardness or sand grading can affect finish. If appearance matters, request local photos or ask about samples before ordering.
Clear the drop area of vehicles, debris, and low-hanging branches; mark the preferred dump location with flags or stakes and ensure there is room for a tri-axle truck to approach and turn. Note any underground utilities, soft or muddy spots, or gated entries in Order Notes and consider compacting soft areas ahead of time. Good preparation reduces delays and the chance of surcharges for difficult access.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible—changes are easiest before the order is processed or the truck is dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate modifications, but changes after dispatch or on the same day of delivery may be limited and could incur fees. Check your order confirmation for contact details and timelines for making changes.
