Local Insights
Home's city population is 310, within a metro area population of 2.5+ million, and the area is growing at a measured rate of 0.40% annually. That steady, incremental growth typically produces consistent construction and landscaping demand—more renovation projects, targeted new builds, and maintenance work rather than large-scale boom development. In a hardiness zone of 8b with 228 sunny days per year and annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, homeowners favor materials that tolerate sun exposure and handle periodic wetting. These local conditions make access to quality bulk materials—dirt, sand, gravel, mulch, and stone—important for long-lasting driveways, proper drainage, erosion control, and low-maintenance yards. Trends in the area point toward permeable surfaces, improved grading, and durable, locally sourced aggregates that reduce future repairs and fit the region's practical needs. Sunny stretches combined with moderate seasonal rainfall and local soil behavior create specific performance considerations: materials can settle, compact, or erode differently across seasons. The relationship between climate and material performance means homeowners should prioritize well-graded soils, aggregates suited for compaction and drainage, and UV-resistant organic products where exposure is high. Hello Gravel helps by connecting you to regional suppliers familiar with these local conditions, offering quantity calculators, clear delivery scheduling, and guidance so you can choose materials and volumes that match your site's weather, maintenance capacity, and project goals.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Just a little hiccup in the delivery date but everything worked out well and with great communication from Janel. Ordering went smoothly as well as working with the delivery team to deliver to the appropriate location for my yard.

Late spring through early fall is usually best in Home because ground is dry and crews can finish grading and compaction. Avoid deliveries during heavy rain or freeze-thaw periods when materials can wash out or compact unevenly. Check local weather and plan deliveries on a dry day for easiest spreading and installation.
Prices can be listed by the ton or by the cubic yard and will vary by material and region. To compare, convert cubic yards to tons using an approximate conversion (many aggregates weigh about 1.2 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard) or use our online calculator for a specific product in your area. Always check the product page for exact pricing and note our 3-ton minimum order.
Measure the area in square feet and decide the depth in inches, then use the formula cubic yards = (square feet x depth in inches) / 324. Convert cubic yards to tons with an approximate weight (around 1.2–1.6 tons per cubic yard depending on material) or use Hello Gravel's material calculator for a guided estimate. Round up slightly to allow for compaction and grading.
Choose based on the project's purpose: drainage, structural base, finished surface, or planting. When comparing gravel, sand, dirt, stone, think about drainage needs, load-bearing requirements, and appearance; for example pick a denser aggregate for driveways and a looser mix for planting beds. If unsure, use our aggregate quiz or contact our team for guidance tailored to Home's local conditions.
Standard delivery generally takes 2 or more business days, and next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by local contracted dump truck fleets (typically tri-axle) and require a minimum order of 3 tons. Choose your preferred date at checkout and check your order confirmation for any scheduling details.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service at checkout. They will assess whether spreading can be done safely on arrival; because of safety and equipment limits we cannot guarantee spreading. Plan for wheelbarrow or small equipment for final spreading unless the driver confirms they can help.
Clear a drop zone free of vehicles, low branches, and obstacles, and make sure there's room for a tri-axle dump truck to access the area or a safe nearby spot to unload. Mark the desired pile location with flags or cones and note any overhead lines or soft ground in your order notes. If ground is soft or access is tight, consider alternate drop points or ask our team for delivery tips to avoid damage.
Because we source regionally, texture and color can vary from online photos; natural materials change with local geology and weather conditions. If you have a concern after delivery, contact customer service promptly and we will work to resolve the issue according to our refund and resolution policies. Adding color or delivery notes at checkout can help communicate your preferences ahead of time.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to modify or cancel an order; changes are easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee all changes, especially once the truck is scheduled. Refer to your order confirmation for contact info and timelines.
Yes—Home's seasonal weather affects delivery and material performance; wet or frozen ground can make deliveries harder and affect compaction and drainage. Store materials on a firm surface and cover if rain is expected to prevent contamination and washout. For time-sensitive projects, schedule delivery during stable weather windows and consider local contractor availability.
