Local Insights
Greensburg is a small community of 1,090 residents experiencing modest, steady change — a growth rate of 0.40% annually that generally produces predictable, ongoing demand for home repairs, yard upgrades, and small-scale construction rather than rapid booms. With a climate in hardiness zone 8b, 228 sunny days per year, and annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, homeowners face a mix of drying sun and periodic wet spells. That combination favors durable, well-graded bulk materials that manage both runoff and moisture retention: stable base materials for driveways and pads, drainage-ready aggregates, soil amendments for planting beds, and organic cover for moisture control. In Greensburg, homeowners are increasingly focused on low-maintenance landscaping, reliable drainage, and materials that stand up to repeated wet–dry cycles, so consistent supply, correct gradation, and proper compaction matter for long-lasting results.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Customers in Greensburg commonly order gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, base courses, fill, drainage work, and landscaping. These materials cover most home and small construction needs, and choices depend on load, drainage, and desired appearance.
West Kansas experiences hot summers, cold winters, and frequent winds, so choose materials that cope with freeze-thaw cycles and resist wind erosion. Heavier, angular aggregates are better where wind is an issue, and materials with adequate fines or compaction perform better through seasonal temperature changes.
Consider load-bearing needs, drainage, long-term maintenance, and appearance when choosing a material. Think about base versus surface layers, slope and runoff, and local soil conditions; our material calculator and sales team can help match options to your project.
Local soil and drainage determine how well a base will compact and how quickly water will move away from the surface. If you have clay or poorly drained soil, you may need a coarser, well-graded base and geotextile to improve stability and drainage; sandier, well-drained soils may need less aggressive drainage measures.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area to calculate cubic yards, then convert to tons (approximate conversion varies by material). Use Hello Gravel’s online calculator or contact our team with project dimensions and access details; remember our minimum order is 3 tons and we deliver with dump trucks, typically tri-axle.
Late spring through early fall is generally the most reliable window to avoid frozen ground and fewer weather delays, though local storms and high-wind periods can occur. Schedule early, and consider next-day delivery if you need materials quickly and the order is placed before noon CST.
Standard delivery is scheduled for 2+ business days with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. We require a 3-ton minimum, use contracted dump trucks for delivery, and drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion; delivery fees and availability can vary by zip code.
Permit and placement rules can vary by city and county; common issues include driveway apron permits, right-of-way restrictions, floodplain or environmental limits, and local ordinances on large-scale fills. Check with Greensburg city offices or Kiowa County before placing materials, and contact our team for help understanding local requirements.
Delivered prices in West Kansas vary by material, distance, and supplier; a typical ballpark range is about $20 to $60 per ton (or roughly $15 to $45 per cubic yard), though specific rates depend on the product and haul distance. For an accurate quote, check your zip code on our site or contact our sales team.
Natural materials vary by region, so color and texture may differ from photos; if you need to change an order, contact our team as soon as possible and we will try to accommodate before processing. For delivery issues or product concerns, reach out to customer service so we can work toward a satisfactory resolution and explain refund or return options.
