Local Insights
Shelburn's population of 2,490 and its location within a broader metro region of 2.3+ million point to a small-community feel with access to a sizeable regional market. The modest growth rate of 0.40% annually suggests steady, manageable demand for home improvement and infill construction rather than a boom-and-bust building cycle. With 228 sunny days per year and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, homeowners and contractors here often balance wet-season runoff with long stretches of sun-driven drying. That mix increases the need for a variety of reliable bulk materials—drainage-grade gravels and sands, structural base mixes, engineered soils, and organic mulches—for projects like driveways, patios, raised beds, and rain-management landscaping. Quality materials that are graded correctly and locally sourced matter in Shelburn because they perform predictably through the local weather patterns and reduce rework over time.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Start by thinking about function: load-bearing surfaces like driveways need coarser, compactable aggregates, while walkways and beds can use finer materials. Consider drainage, maintenance, and appearance for your property in Shelburn's climate, and note that local sourcing means color and texture may vary. Use our material quiz or contact the Hello Gravel team for project-specific guidance.
Shelburn experiences freeze-thaw cycles that can cause frost heave and drainage issues, so choose materials that compact well and allow water to drain. Avoid fine loose materials in areas prone to freeze-thaw without proper base and drainage, and schedule major deliveries or installation in milder months when possible. For snow removal areas, use materials that resist potholing and are compatible with plowing.
Estimate using area and depth: calculate square feet times depth (in feet) to get cubic feet, then convert to cubic yards (divide by 27) or tons using typical densities. As a rule of thumb, a 12-by-40-foot driveway surfaced 3 inches deep uses about 1.2 cubic yards; our online calculator can give more precise estimates based on material type. If you need help, contact Hello Gravel with project dimensions and we can walk you through the numbers.
Some Shelburn properties may have local ordinances, county rules, or HOA guidelines that govern driveway placement, grading, or visible materials. Check with the City of Shelburn, Clay County, or your HOA before ordering to confirm setbacks, drainage requirements, and permit needs. If in doubt, ask our team and we can suggest questions to bring to your municipal office.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. We deliver with contracted dump truck fleets (typically tri-axle trucks) and require a minimum order of 3 tons. During checkout you can pick a delivery date and add notes about access; we will confirm details before dispatch.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion and if conditions allow, but this is not guaranteed. Request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess safety and access upon arrival; for larger projects consider hiring a local crew for spreading, compaction, and finishing. We recommend preparing a clear, level drop zone to improve the chance of on-site spreading.
Materials are sourced locally, so gravel, sand, dirt, and stone may vary in color, grain, and texture based on West Indiana geology. This regional variation is normal and often expected; if you have color preferences, note them in your order and our team will pass that to the supplier where possible. Photos are illustrative, not exact matches.
Clear vegetation, remove low-hanging branches and vehicles from the access route, and mark the preferred drop location with stakes or flags. Make sure the driver has stable ground and enough turning space; if trucks cannot reach the drop area, materials may need to be placed at the nearest safe point. Communicate any access constraints in Order Notes so we can coordinate with the hauler.
Hello Gravel provides transparent pricing that reflects material type, local supplier rates, and delivery distance; minimum orders start at 3 tons. Bulk pricing can improve per-ton cost for larger orders since trucking and handling are spread across more material; request a quote for big projects and our sales team can outline the cost breakdown. Payment is accepted online with major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible—changes are easier before the order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate modifications but cannot guarantee all changes, especially once the supplier or hauler is scheduled. For issues on delivery day, contact customer service and refer to our refund policy for next steps.
