Local Insights
Gaston (population 2,370) is part of a larger metro region of 2.3+ million, and its measured growth rate of 0.40% annually points to steady, incremental demand for home improvements and modest new construction. For homeowners this usually means ongoing maintenance and selective upgrades rather than boom-time building; reliable, long-lasting materials tend to be the priority. Gaston's climate — with 228 sunny days per year and an annual rainfall of 33.50 inches, in hardiness zone 8b — supports extended outdoor seasons but also requires products that handle both sun exposure and periodic rain. That combination shapes needs across landscaping and construction: base materials for driveways and pads, soil blends for planting beds, mulches for moisture control, and erosion-management solutions for sloped yards. Choosing quality bulk supplies reduces rework, improves drainage and longevity, and helps projects match local conditions and gradual growth trends.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Gaston sees freeze-thaw cycles in winter, wet springs, and warm summers that affect material performance and handling. Choose materials that tolerate local moisture and avoid scheduling major deliveries or installations during heavy rain or when ground is frozen. Spring through early fall is usually the best window for most outdoor installs, but check short-term forecasts before delivery.
Many yards in the West Indiana region drain slowly in low spots and can have clay-rich soils that hold water. For projects where drainage matters, pick materials that promote runoff and stability and plan for subgrades or geotextile fabrics as needed. If you have a drainage concern, consider a material that improves permeability and talk with a supplier or contractor about site-specific options.
Rural roads, narrow driveways, and low-clearance entrances are common considerations in Gaston and nearby areas. Truck weight limits, narrow lanes, and overhead wires can affect where a dump truck can safely place material, so note access details in your order and expect the driver to assess conditions on arrival. If access is tight, contact our team to discuss drop-off options before scheduling.
Most homeowners and contractors estimate by calculating the area (length x width) and multiplying by the desired depth, then converting to cubic yards or tons. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or our aggregate quiz for quick estimates and round up slightly for compaction and waste. If you have irregular shapes or deep fills, consider having a professional confirm quantities.
Standard delivery in the Gaston area typically takes 2+ business days from order, and next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Minimum orders start at 3 tons and deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets, so expect the driver to place material where access allows. You can select a preferred delivery date at checkout and add order notes for special instructions.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and depends on safety and access on arrival. Request spreading in the checkout notes and the driver will assess whether it can be done safely. If precise spreading is required, plan for a contractor to finish grading after delivery.
Permit requirements vary by township and county; some driveway connections, large stockpiles, or work that alters stormwater flow can require permits or inspections. Contact Wells County or your local township office before starting work to confirm rules and any setback or drainage requirements. When in doubt, consult a local contractor or municipal office to avoid delays.
Hello Gravel sources materials locally, so color, texture, and particle mix reflect the geology of the West Indiana area and may vary from online photos. Those natural variations can affect appearance and how materials compact or drain, so note color preferences in Order Notes but expect some regional differences. If appearance is critical, request a sample or discuss options with our team before ordering.
Material-only purchases usually cost less upfront, but contractors add labor, equipment, and time to handle grading, compaction, and finishing. For many small DIY projects, homeowners save money by buying materials and handling installation themselves; for larger or precision work, contractors can reduce risk and rework. Get material quotes and contractor estimates to compare total costs and timelines before deciding.
For erosion control, use well-graded materials, proper slopes, vegetation, and, where needed, geotextile fabric or erosion blankets to stabilize soil. In areas exposed to winter salts, choose aggregates and surfacing options known for durability and lower susceptibility to breakdown, and plan for proper drainage to limit freeze-thaw damage. Discuss local climate impacts with our team so you pick materials suited to Gaston's conditions.
Hello Gravel typically has a 3-ton minimum order and offers transparent pricing that can include free delivery in many areas, but fees vary by location and order size. Standard delivery is included in the quoted price for many orders with a 2+ business day lead time; next-day delivery is an available paid option if placed before noon CST. Check your zip code at checkout for exact pricing and delivery details.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible; changes are easiest before an order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate modifications, but ability to change or cancel depends on supplier and trucking schedules. If an issue arises after delivery, contact customer service and review our refund policy for next steps.
