Local Insights
Dubois is a small but active community of 1,890 residents. That modest population and a steady growth rate of 0.40% annually mean construction and landscaping demand is predictable and slowly increasing—ideal for homeowners planning projects over the next few years. The local climate and geography (hardiness zone 8b, roughly 228 sunny days per year, and average rainfall of 33.50 inches annually) support frequent outdoor work but also shape the kinds of materials that perform best here. Durable base materials, well-graded aggregates, moisture-retentive topsoils, and quality mulches all play roles in driveways, drainage improvements, and low-maintenance landscapes. Homeowners and contractors in Dubois are trending toward solutions that balance durability with low upkeep, so reliable access to bulk supplies like gravel, sand, dirt, and organic products matters for long-term performance.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of 3 tons and standard delivery in the Dubois area is typically 2+ business days from order confirmation. Next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee, and lead times can vary by local supplier and season.
Costs depend on the material, quantity, and distance from the local supplier, but homeowners in the West Indiana area can generally expect a broad range rather than a fixed price. As a guideline, budget based on per-ton or per-cubic-yard pricing from local suppliers and add delivery; contact our team for a tailored quote since regional sourcing and seasonal demand affect final price.
Choose materials that promote drainage and resist frost heave for Dubois’s climate; well-graded aggregates are commonly used to balance stability and water flow. Because local geology matters, consider products that provide good compaction and drainage, and consult supplier recommendations to match a material’s performance to your driveway, yard, or drainage project.
Permit requirements can vary depending on project scope, lot location, and whether you are altering drainage or an approved right-of-way. Check with Dubois County and your township offices before starting major grading, driveways, or fill work, and we recommend contacting local officials for specific rules rather than assuming a project is permit-free.
Spring through early fall is generally the best window for installing driveways, patios, and drainage projects in Dubois to avoid frozen ground and heavy rains. Winter freeze-thaw cycles and wet periods can delay compaction and finishing, so schedule during drier months when possible and plan for some weather-related flexibility.
Local haulers serving Dubois are familiar with rural access, but access limitations like low branches, narrow gates, or soft shoulders can affect where trucks can safely dump materials. Provide detailed delivery notes at checkout, photos of the access point if possible, and contact our team so we can confirm the best drop location and discuss options for smaller trucks or alternate placement.
Maintenance varies by material but commonly includes periodic regrading, added top-up material, and ensuring good drainage to prevent ponding and erosion. Plan for occasional replenishment every few years for high-traffic areas and keep drainage features clear to extend the life of any aggregate-based surface.
Start by identifying the purpose (load-bearing driveway, decorative bed, erosion control, or drainage) and site conditions (slope, drainage, and access). Use Hello Gravel’s material calculator and expert guidance to compare materials based on stability, drainage, appearance, and maintenance needs, and pick a supplier who can confirm local performance and sizing options.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible to request modifications; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is dispatched to a local supplier and hauler. We will do our best to help, but changes may be limited once processing or dispatch has started, so notify our team quickly for the best chance of adjustment.
