Local Insights
Donnelly is a small Idaho community with a city population of 1,950 and sits within a broader West Idaho region that supports a metro area population of 2.6+ million. That steady 1.20% annual growth points to consistent demand for home improvement, property upgrades, and modest new construction—projects that rely on reliable access to bulk materials. With about 228 sunny days each year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in a hardiness zone of 8b, homeowners need materials that handle both seasonal wetting and extended dry periods. These local conditions drive interest in durable aggregates, stable base materials, balanced soils, and effective mulches and topsoils for planting beds and erosion control. As Donnelly homeowners pursue driveways, drainage fixes, patios, and water-wise landscaping, accessible, correctly specified bulk supplies help projects last longer and perform better in the local climate.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching material performance to the job: consider load-bearing needs, drainage, and desired appearance. Think about longevity and maintenance—materials for a driveway base need more compaction than a decorative bed. Use our material calculator and sample images to compare options of gravel, sand, dirt, stone and contact our team for guidance if you are unsure.
We supply materials for a wide range of residential and contractor projects, including driveways and parking pads, patios and pathways, grading and site leveling, backfill and foundation work, erosion control, and garden beds. Our network of local suppliers can provide appropriate aggregates and soil blends for both small DIY jobs and larger contractor deliveries. If you have a special project, contact us with details and photos so we can recommend the right materials and delivery approach.
Donnelly sees cold winters, snow, and a spring thaw, so choose materials that handle freeze-thaw cycles and wet conditions if they will be exposed. Schedule heavy deliveries and base-work for late spring through early fall when access is best and compaction is most effective. For winter or muddy-season work, plan for potential delays and discuss staging or protection options with your hauler.
Calculate cubic yards first: area in square feet times depth in feet, divided by 27 (cubic yards = area x depth / 27). Convert cubic yards to tons using a rough range of 1.2 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard depending on the type of material, then round up slightly for waste and compaction. Use our online calculator or text photos and measurements to our team for a quick estimate.
Standard delivery is typically available in 2 or more business days, with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Our minimum order is 3 tons, and deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets (usually tri-axle trucks). Tailgate spreading may be requested at checkout but is performed at the driver’s discretion and is not guaranteed.
Donnelly properties can have narrow roads, steep driveways, or limited turning space—note any low wires, weight-restricted roads, or tight gates before ordering. Provide clear delivery instructions and photos during checkout so the hauler can assess access and equipment needs. If access is limited, consider a nearby staging area or smaller delivery vehicle and allow extra time for coordination.
Permit requirements vary by city, county, and homeowner association; common issues include right-of-way placement, septic and utility setbacks, and curb or driveway work. Check with Donnelly city hall or Valley County planning before ordering large deliveries, and secure any required permits or approvals. If you’re unsure, our team can point you to local contacts but we do not obtain permits on your behalf.
Contractors typically price projects by combining material volume, hauling and trucking complexity, site preparation (excavation, compaction, erosion controls), and labor. They also factor in local conditions like access, slope, and whether additional equipment is needed. Share detailed site measurements and photos to get accurate contractor bids, and compare several quotes for a reliable cost range.
Expect some settling and minor erosion after initial placement, especially through freeze-thaw cycles and spring runoff; periodic regrading or topping up may be needed every few years. Keep drainage paths clear and address pooling water to prevent washouts. For decorative areas, plan for weed control and occasional replenishment to maintain appearance and performance.
Many local suppliers offer small sample bags, photos, or project galleries to help you visualize materials in your area, and you can request color or texture preferences in the order notes. While exact matches to online photos are not guaranteed due to regional sourcing, samples can be helpful for final decisions. Contact our customer service to ask about available samples or to see recent local project photos.
