Local Insights
With a city population of 4,100 and located inside a metro area population of 2.3+ million, Nicholls is part of a steadily growing West Georgia region. A growth rate of 2.10% annually means ongoing residential infill, yard upgrades, and small-scale construction are likely to keep demand for bulk materials consistent rather than sporadic. Local climate—Hardiness Zone 8b, about 228/year sunny days, and annual rainfall of 34.00 inches—creates a balance of dry working days and enough seasonal moisture to make drainage, erosion control, and soil stabilization important project considerations. Homeowners here are increasingly focused on practical landscaping, driveway and path repairs, grading for water management, and garden bed improvements, so reliable access to a range of aggregates, soils, and mulches matters for durability, performance, and long-term maintenance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Prices vary by supplier, material type, and seasonal demand, so there is no single fixed price. Use Hello Gravel’s online quote tool to get current local pricing for gravel, sand, dirt, and stone in Nicholls or contact our team for a custom estimate. Remember that delivery fees, minimum order sizes, and next-day options can affect the final cost.
Coverage depends on material density and the depth you need, but as a general rule one ton typically covers roughly 60 to 100 square feet at a 2-inch depth. Heavier materials and compacted applications will cover less area, and loose, fluffy materials will cover more. Use our material calculator for a more precise estimate based on the exact depth and project type.
The number of tons depends on driveway width and desired thickness. For example, a 100-foot driveway that is 10 feet wide usually needs about 3 to 5 inches of base material, which can translate to roughly 15 to 30 tons depending on the material and compaction. Use our calculator or contact support with your driveway dimensions for a tailored estimate.
Two inches may work for a temporary or light-use surface, but is generally too thin for a long-term residential driveway that will see regular vehicle traffic. Most driveway builds require a thicker base layer (commonly 3 to 6 inches depending on soil and traffic) with a finished surface on top. Consider soil conditions in Nicholls and consult our team to choose the right thickness for durability.
One ton will spread farther at shallower depths—expect roughly 60 to 100 square feet at 2 inches, more at 1 inch and less at 3 inches. Coverage also depends on whether you want a compacted base or a loose top layer. For precise coverage for patios, walkways, or grading, use our online calculator or ask a sales rep for help.
Consider the project purpose (drainage, base, finishing surface, or grading), the local soil and drainage conditions in Nicholls, and the look you want. For example, stable bases need angular stone while drainage areas perform better with clean, coarse materials; top layers and aesthetics may prioritize color and texture. If unsure, take our aggregate quiz or call our experts for a recommendation that balances performance and budget.
Dump truck cost depends on the number of tons ordered, material type, and delivery distance. Hello Gravel typically uses tri-axle dump trucks for deliveries and our minimum order is 3 tons; the online quote shows any delivery fees and truck size for your address. For larger projects, we can coordinate multiple trucks and provide a clear schedule and pricing in advance.
Next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee, subject to local supplier and truck availability. Standard delivery typically requires 2 or more business days, and you can choose your preferred delivery date at checkout. We recommend ordering early during busy seasons to secure your preferred date.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and depends on safety and site conditions. Prepare a clear drop zone free of low-hanging wires, vehicles, and fragile landscaping, and flag the desired dump location in advance. If you need spreading or special placement, add notes at checkout and contact our team to discuss options.
Contact our customer service as soon as possible; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is dispatched. We will do our best to modify quantities, dates, or material selection, but some requests may not be possible once a supplier or truck is scheduled. Check our order terms for details and reach out by phone or text for the fastest response.
