Hello Gravel found me while I was looking for dirt to fill a hole that opened up in my back yard. I originally searched on DirtMatch and when I spoke with Chuck I was originally quoted for 1 ton of dirt. After showing pictures it turned out I needed less than half of that. Chuck talked me through the process of picking the right soil, how to fill the hole, and where to get what I needed from the Lowes local to me. Uploaded pictures of how we found it, after we dug out all the overhang and cleaned it out, and after we filled it in. I saved $400 by talking with Chuck and it only took like 3 hours. I wasn't even an official customer and Chuck took the time to help me with the hole in my yard. And on a weekend no less!!! What I'm saying is if you're looking for honest, kind, caring people to help you with your job. From my experience, this is the place.

Costs depend on material type, local supply, order size, and hauling distance. Delivery fees can vary by supplier and may include fuel or access charges; Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing and minimums (3 tons). For a precise cost, get a quote through our site or use the material calculator to estimate quantities before checkout.
Choose materials that drain well, resist breakdown in moisture, and stand up to heat and sun exposure. Look for durable, well-graded aggregates and plan for good base preparation, edging, and compacted layers regardless of whether you choose gravel, sand, dirt, or stone. Local sourcing means materials reflect regional geology, so ask about texture and color when ordering.
Try to schedule major deliveries and grading during the drier months (typically late fall through spring) to avoid heavy summer rain and storm disruptions. North Port sees a wet season and potential tropical storms in summer, so allow extra lead time and consider next-day delivery options for time-sensitive work. Standard delivery requires 2+ business days and next-day may be available for orders placed before noon CST.
Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers that deliver to your zip code (check availability for 34286). Delivery area limits, minimum orders, and fees vary by supplier and local haulers, so you’ll see specific options and costs during checkout. If you need a specific delivery window or tailgate spreading, add that in Order Notes and our team will coordinate with the hauler.
Prices fluctuate based on market conditions, material density, and hauling distance, so it’s hard to give one number that always applies. Use Hello Gravel’s quote tool to see current per-ton or per-cubic-yard pricing for your area, and remember that heavier materials weigh more per cubic yard than loose ones. If you need help converting volume to weight, contact our team or use the material calculator for estimates.
Focus on grading for positive drainage, using permeable aggregates and creating stable edges or channels to direct water away from structures. Combining appropriate aggregates with geotextile fabric, retaining edges, and native, drought-tolerant planting reduces maintenance and improves erosion control. Tailor the solution to your yard’s slope, soil type, and local rainfall patterns.
Permits or HOA approvals may be required for significant driveway work, curb cuts, or projects that block the street or change drainage patterns. Check with the City of North Port building and permitting department and your HOA before ordering large quantities or scheduling work. If you’re unsure, contact our team and they can point you to local resources, but final approval decisions are up to the city and your HOA.
Many North Port contractors offer site prep, grading, installation, and hauling away excess material; Hello Gravel can help you source materials while you shop for labor. Labor costs vary with scope, equipment needed, and local rates, so get multiple bids and ask contractors for references and line-item pricing. Plan for additional charges for hauling offsite waste, machine rental, or complex access situations.
Generally, more durable, well-compacted materials require higher upfront cost but lower maintenance over time, while cheaper materials may need more frequent topping or repairs. Longevity depends heavily on proper base preparation, drainage, and intended use rather than material name alone. Discuss your budget and expected traffic with our team to choose a material that balances initial cost and long-term performance.
Look for dense, well-draining aggregates and stable stone that shed water quickly and resist breakdown from moisture and salt exposure. Use edging, weed barrier fabric, and proper compaction to limit weed intrusion and movement during heavy rains. Regular inspection and light maintenance after storms will extend the life of any material in a coastal climate.
