Local Insights
Higginson has a population of 460 and sits within a growing regional market—part of a West Arkansas area that exceeds 2.5+ million residents and is expanding at about 1.20% annually. That steady growth signals ongoing demand for home improvements, new driveways, landscape renewals, and site grading. In Higginson's climate—hardiness zone 8b with 228/year sunny days and about 34.25 inches of annual rainfall—materials must balance sun exposure, seasonal wetness, and year-round gardening. Homeowners benefit from bulk supplies that improve drainage, resist erosion during heavy rains, and retain moisture during hot spells. Regional sourcing matters here: local aggregates, soils, and mulch reflect neighborhood soils and help projects blend with existing conditions while cutting time on hauling and staging.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Just a little hiccup in the delivery date but everything worked out well and with great communication from Janel. Ordering went smoothly as well as working with the delivery team to deliver to the appropriate location for my yard.

Homeowners in Higginson commonly order gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, patios, grading, fill, and garden beds. These materials are used as base layers, drainage solutions, topdressing, and decorative surfaces depending on the project.
Choose based on the project's needs: use coarser aggregates for drainage and load-bearing areas and finer materials for leveling or top dressing. Consider Higginson’s hot summers, occasional freezes, and variable rainfall — materials that shed water and resist washout are better for sloped or wet sites, and local supply will reflect regional geology.
Clayey or compacted soils hold water and may need a coarse base layer or added subdrainage, while sandy soils drain well and may need more organic or fine topsoil for planting. For driveways and high-traffic areas, add a compacted base and consider geotextile fabric to prevent mixing with underlying soil and to improve stability.
A small single-car driveway or a modest patio often needs 2 to 6 cubic yards (roughly 3 to 8 tons depending on material density), while larger or deeper installations can require 6 to 12+ cubic yards. We recommend using Hello Gravel’s material calculator or contacting our sales team to get a precise estimate for your exact dimensions and depth.
Many local suppliers and haulers deliver to rural and unpaved addresses, but access limitations, steep grades, low-hanging wires, or narrow lanes can restrict truck access. Note access details in your order, and our team will review delivery feasibility and any extra charges before dispatch.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Minimum orders start at 3 tons, delivery is by contracted dump trucks, and you can select your preferred delivery date at checkout.
Delivery cost depends on the material type, quantity, and distance from the supplier, plus any access or rural fees. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing and delivery fees in the checkout after you enter your zip code so you can compare options before ordering.
Late spring through early fall is ideal for most outdoor deliveries and installations because ground conditions are drier and crews are available. Avoid scheduling on expected rainy days or during freezes, and plan deliveries for early in the day during hot summer months to reduce disruption and material handling issues.
Clear the drop area of vehicles and obstacles, mark preferred drop locations, and make sure trucks have safe, stable access. If there are special instructions or limited access, add them to your order notes and contact our team so the driver and supplier can plan accordingly.
Natural materials vary by region, so color and texture may differ from pictures; if you need changes, contact our team as soon as possible so we can try to modify the order before processing. For quality or delivery issues, contact customer service and we will work to resolve the issue in line with our policies.
