Local Insights
Fairview, located in the East Florence, Alabama Region, serves a community with a city population: 9,980 and sits within a broader metro area population: 2.4+ million. With a growth rate: 0.69% annually, development is steady rather than explosive—meaning ongoing home renovations, incremental new construction, and regular landscaping upgrades rather than large-scale boom projects. The local climate (sunny days: 152/year, annual rainfall: 33.50 inches, hardiness zone: 8b) creates seasons of both dry sun and frequent moisture, so homeowners and contractors need materials that balance drainage, stability, and plant health. That makes high-quality bulk supplies—gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, and engineered base mixes—important for driveways, stormwater management, planting beds, and hardscape bases. Choosing materials that perform reliably under alternating wet and sunny conditions reduces maintenance and extends the life of outdoor investments.

Hello Gravel found me while I was looking for dirt to fill a hole that opened up in my back yard. I originally searched on DirtMatch and when I spoke with Chuck I was originally quoted for 1 ton of dirt. After showing pictures it turned out I needed less than half of that. Chuck talked me through the process of picking the right soil, how to fill the hole, and where to get what I needed from the Lowes local to me. Uploaded pictures of how we found it, after we dug out all the overhang and cleaned it out, and after we filled it in. I saved $400 by talking with Chuck and it only took like 3 hours. I wasn't even an official customer and Chuck took the time to help me with the hole in my yard. And on a weekend no less!!! What I'm saying is if you're looking for honest, kind, caring people to help you with your job. From my experience, this is the place.

The right choice depends on traffic, slope and drainage needs rather than a single ‘best’ option. For driveways on slopes or in wet spots choose a material mix that compacts well and sheds water; for light-use paths a looser, decorative aggregate may be fine. Use our material calculator and the aggregate quiz to compare options, and contact our team if you need help matching a material to your site conditions.
Prioritize materials and mixes that resist erosion, compact reliably, and promote drainage on slopes. Consider gradation and angularity (how crushed the particles are) and add layers like base material and geotextile where needed. Local sourcing means materials reflect Fairview area geology, so ask your supplier about performance in nearby projects.
Delivery cost varies with distance from the quarry or yard, order size, material type, truck access, and whether you need next-day delivery or special services. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing for your zip code and a minimum order of 3 tons; many areas also qualify for free standard delivery. Request a quote or enter your address at checkout for an exact price.
Aim for drier months to avoid muddy sites and to get better compaction—spring through early fall is usually best, but local weather matters. Standard delivery requires 2+ business days; next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST with an extra fee. For seasonal projects, reserve material and a delivery date in advance to avoid delays.
Yes—local suppliers and contracted haulers typically deliver to residential addresses, but truck size, driveway strength, overhead obstructions and local access rules can affect delivery. Provide clear directions and photos at checkout so the hauler can assess access, and ask about drop location and any site prep needed. If access is tight, discuss alternate drop spots or offloading options before delivery.
Choose based on function: use materials that improve drainage and reduce erosion for wet areas, stable compacting mixes for driveways and bases, and finer materials for leveling or planting beds. Gravel, sand, dirt and stone each have strengths—combine them in layers (base, bedding, surface) depending on the project. If unsure, describe your project to our team and we’ll suggest suitable combinations and coverage rates.
Measure the area in square feet and multiply by the desired depth in feet, then divide by 27 to get cubic yards (Area x Depth / 27 = cubic yards). Convert cubic yards to tons using a material-specific factor or use our online calculator for a quick estimate. Always add 5–10% for compaction and waste and remember our minimum order is 3 tons.
Permit needs vary by city, county and homeowner association rules; some areas regulate large imports, fill in floodplains, or materials near wetlands and septic systems. Check Fairview and Marshall County building or planning departments and consult your HOA before ordering large quantities. If you’re unsure, our team can help point you to local contacts to confirm requirements.
Choose suppliers and haulers with local experience, clear pricing, proof of insurance, reliable communication and positive customer reviews. Confirm they can handle your site access, deliver the truck type you need, and provide material photos or specs reflecting local geology. Hello Gravel connects you with vetted local suppliers and manage scheduling so you can compare options from multiple providers.
Availability depends on zip code, material, truck schedules and order cutoffs; next-day delivery is often possible for orders placed before noon CST and may carry an extra fee. Same-week delivery is commonly available for many materials, especially larger orders, but confirm lead times during busy seasons. For time-sensitive jobs, place orders early and communicate any timeline constraints to our team.
Tailgate spreading may be offered at the driver’s discretion and can be requested at checkout, but it is not guaranteed. Drivers will assess safety and site conditions upon arrival before agreeing to spread material. If you require spreading as a firm service, consider booking a contractor or confirming spreading options in advance with your provider.
Clear the intended drop area of vehicles, low-hanging branches and obstacles, and mark the exact spot to help the driver. Make sure access is wide and strong enough for a dump truck, protect paved surfaces if needed, and plan for where excess material and pallets will go. Communicate any special instructions at checkout and contact our team if you need help evaluating site access.
Materials are delivered by dump truck directly to your driveway or job site, placed exactly where you need them.
