Unclassified Sand

Unclassified sand is a naturally occurring granular material composed primarily of finely divided rock and mineral particles. Unlike screened or washed sands, unclassified sand has not been sorted by size or thoroughly cleaned, resulting in a mix of fine and coarse grains with occasional small debris.




The lack of classification means this sand is versatile but less consistent in texture and cleanliness. It is commonly used for general fill, backfilling trenches, leveling uneven ground, and as a base layer for paving projects where precise gradation is not critical. While it is cost-effective and readily available, unclassified sand may contain more dust and organic material, which can affect compaction and drainage. It is not recommended for applications requiring a smooth finish or high structural integrity, such as concrete mixes or playgrounds.
