Sand in the #8 to #4 size range consists of granules that are coarser than typical play sand but finer than most gravels. This gradation is achieved by screening natural or crushed sand to ensure particles fall between approximately 2.36 mm (#8 sieve) and 4.75 mm (#4 sieve) in diameter. The result is a material with excellent drainage properties and moderate compaction ability.




The #8 to #4 size range is ideal for applications where both stability and permeability are important. Common uses include bedding for pavers, pipe bedding, and as a leveling layer beneath concrete slabs or patios. In landscaping, this sand is often used for creating stable bases that still allow water to pass through, reducing the risk of pooling or erosion.
