Decorative Stone Rock
We deliver every gradeDecomposed Granite
Decomposed granite is granite rock that's broken down into small bits over a long time. You'll see pieces about the size of coarse sand mixed with a fine, gritty dust. The color runs from gold to gray to reddish brown depending on the quarry it came from. Landscapers often just call it DG.
The name tells you what happened to the rock. Weather and time chewed the granite into gravel-sized pieces plus fines that pack down tight when you water and tamp them. You'll find three main grades: loose DG for beds and paths, stabilized DG with a binder mixed in, and a resin-coated version that sets up harder underfoot. Loose DG costs the least by the ton. The stabilized and resin blends run more because the binder is part of the price.

What people use it for
How to choose within decomposed granite
Read at the right distance
Pick the size that reads from where you'll see it. Fist-sized boulders in a small bed look like debris; pea-sized stone across a big front yard looks like dust.
Color that stays put
Natural stone holds its color for years. Dyed or coated pieces fade to grey after a season or two of sun.
Rounded vs. angular
Rounded stone rolls under a shoe, so it belongs inside a border. Angular stone stays put on a slope but reads harder underfoot.
