Unwashed Sand

Unwashed sand is a naturally occurring aggregate that retains its fine particles, clay, and silt content after extraction. Unlike washed sand, it is not processed to remove impurities, which gives it a slightly coarser texture and a more natural appearance. This material is typically sourced from riverbeds, quarries, or pits and is left in its raw state.




The unwashed attribute means the sand contains more dust and organic material, making it ideal for applications where binding properties are important. It is commonly used in masonry work, as a base for pavers, or for backfilling and general construction fill. Unwashed sand is also suitable for mixing with cement for mortar or concrete where a perfectly clean finish is not required. While it is cost-effective and provides good compaction, the presence of fines can make it less suitable for drainage applications or for use in playgrounds and sandboxes, where cleanliness and safety are priorities.
