Product description

Angular 4–8" stone for ditches, slopes, and outlets

Small riprap is angular crushed stone sized 4 to 8 inches. The broken faces lock together, so it holds its place when water moves through. It's the right size for drainage ditches, culvert and downspout outlets, pond edges, and gentle slopes. Stone type and color vary by location, and size varies slightly.

Small riprap is angular 4 to 8 inch stone that locks together to stop erosion, not rounded rock that rolls away.

Also called: small rip rap, gabion stone, surge stone, 4-8 inch riprap, erosion control stone, light riprap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use the calculator with your length, width, and depth. Riprap is usually placed about 1.5 times as thick as the largest stone, so plan on roughly 12 inches for 4–8 inch stone. One ton covers about 18 square feet at that depth.

Small riprap handles yard drainage, ditches, and outlets with moderate flow. If you're armoring a creek bank, a shoreline, or a steep slope with strong current, use medium riprap (12–24 inch).

Yes. 4–8 inch stone is a common gabion fill because it's larger than most basket mesh openings. Check your basket's mesh size before you order.

Yes. A layer of geotextile fabric underneath keeps soil from washing out between the stones. Without it, riprap can settle and lose ground over time.

Yes, but it's heavy work. Single stones run from a few pounds up to about 40. For bigger areas, a skid steer or tractor bucket makes placement much faster.

By dump truck, straight to your property. The driver dumps it in one pile where you choose. Pick a firm, level spot the truck can reach, clear of cars and overhead wires. Delivery is included in the price you see.
