Select fill is screened, compactable fill for building up grade, forming pads for slabs and sheds, and backfilling around foundations. It has fewer rocks, roots, and debris than ordinary fill dirt and packs into a firm, stable layer. What it's made of depends on where you are: a sandy clay in Texas and much of the South, and a granular sand-and-gravel fill in many other regions. If your engineer or permit lists a specific spec, request a quote so we can match it.

- We fix what we control. Wrong material, confirmed fulfillment errors, or orders we cannot complete are reviewed for replacement, refund, or another fair resolution.

Hello Gravel found me while I was looking for dirt to fill a hole that opened up in my back yard. I originally searched on DirtMatch and when I spoke with Chuck I was originally quoted for 1 ton of dirt. After showing pictures it turned out I needed less than half of that. Chuck talked me through the process of picking the right soil, how to fill the hole, and where to get what I needed from the Lowes local to me. Uploaded pictures of how we found it, after we dug out all the overhang and cleaned it out, and after we filled it in. I saved $400 by talking with Chuck and it only took like 3 hours. While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Use the calculator with your area and finished depth. Fill packs down, so order 15 to 20 percent more than the measured volume. One ton covers about 60 square feet at 4 inches before compaction.
It depends on your area. In Texas and much of the South it's a screened sandy clay. In many other regions it's a granular mix of sand and small gravel. Both are chosen because they compact firm and drain better than ordinary fill dirt.
If your plans call for a specific gradation, compaction test, or DOT material, request a quote before ordering and include the spec. We'll confirm a local material that meets it.
Fill dirt is general excavated soil, and it can vary a lot load to load. Select fill is screened and chosen to compact consistently. Pick select fill under slabs, pads, and anything that needs to stay level.
Spread it in layers of 4 to 6 inches. Dampen each layer, then run a plate compactor or roller over it before adding the next. Too dry won't pack. Too wet turns to mud.
Not well. Select fill is made to pack hard, and roots don't like that. Cap it with 3 to 4 inches of topsoil if you want lawn on top.
By dump truck, straight to your property. The driver dumps it in one pile where you choose. Pick a firm, level spot the truck can reach, clear of cars and overhead wires. Delivery is included in the price you see.
