Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

A compacted base helps — for tables and chairs, a firm sub-base under the gravel keeps legs from sinking, and edging keeps the whole surface contained. Heavier furniture does best on a tamped base layer beneath the gravel.
Because it's rounded, the gravel shifts with foot traffic — install edging around the patio and lay fabric underneath so it doesn't migrate or sink into the soil.
