Black Slate Chips
Flat 1–2" dark slate pieces for beds and paths
Black slate chips are flat pieces of slate, a stone that splits into thin layers. Pieces run about 1 to 2 inches across and lie flat, so they overlap into a smooth, layered surface instead of a pile of chunks. The dark charcoal color sets off plants and light hardscape, and wet slate turns a deeper black. Use it in modern beds, borders, and around water features. Size varies slightly by location, and color runs charcoal to blue-black with some lighter streaks, varying by location.
Black slate chips are flat, layered pieces of dark slate about 1 to 2 inches, not Black Gravel, which is crushed, chunky, angular dark stone.
Also called: black slate, slate chips, slate gravel, crushed black slate, black slate mulch, slate landscape rock.

Right material. Safe delivery. Real help if we miss.
How it works
- We fix what we control. Wrong material, confirmed fulfillment errors, or orders we cannot complete are reviewed for replacement, refund, or another fair resolution.
- Safe delivery comes first. The driver chooses the final safe dump location on site. If your requested spot is not safely reachable, we deliver to the closest safe location available.
- Plans change. You can cancel free up to one full business day before delivery. Next-business-day orders cannot be cancelled once confirmed.
- Natural material varies. Color, texture, moisture, dust, and sizing can vary by quarry, supplier, season, and region.

I ordered fill dirt to grade around my house. The process was so simple! The driver met me where I wanted him to drop the dirt. I think I spent a total of 30 min with the ordering, paying, and the truck arriving with the material the day they said they would be there. I'm very pleased.

Frequently Asked Questions
Use the calculator with your length, width, and depth. A 2 to 3 inch layer gives full coverage. One ton covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches deep.
Black slate chips are flat and layered, so they lie down and overlap. Black Gravel is crushed dark stone with chunky, angular pieces. Pick slate for a flat, layered look. Pick black gravel for a uniform dark gravel.
Yes, for casual garden paths. The flat pieces settle and overlap into a fairly even surface. Edging keeps it in place. It's not a good fit for driveways, where tires break and scatter the chips.
Slate is naturally dark, so there's no dye to wash out. Dry slate looks lighter and grayer than wet slate, and some pieces show lighter streaks. That's normal for natural stone.
Fresh slate pieces can have thin, sharp edges. Wear gloves when you spread it, and skip it for play areas and dog runs.
By dump truck, straight to your property. The driver dumps it in one pile where you choose. Pick a firm, level spot the truck can reach, clear of cars and overhead wires. Delivery is included in the price you see.
