Black Lava Rock
$193.96/yard · material
Lightweight 3/4–1 1/2" black volcanic rock for beds
Black lava rock is crushed volcanic stone full of tiny air pockets, which keeps it light and easy to spread. It goes down like mulch but doesn't rot, fade like dye, or need replacing every year. The dark charcoal color sets off green plants and light hardscape, so it's popular in modern beds, around succulents, and along borders. Pieces run about 3/4 to 1 1/2 inch. Size varies slightly and shade varies by location.
Black lava rock is lightweight, porous volcanic stone about 3/4 to 1 1/2 inch in a dark charcoal color, not dyed mulch that fades.
Also called: black lava stone, black cinder, black volcanic rock, black scoria, black lava gravel, charcoal lava rock.

How it works
- We fix what we control. Wrong material, confirmed fulfillment errors, or orders we cannot complete are reviewed for replacement, refund, or another fair resolution.
- Safe delivery comes first. The driver chooses the final safe dump location on site. If your requested spot is not safely reachable, we deliver to the closest safe location available.
- Plans change. You can cancel free up to one full business day before delivery. Next-business-day orders cannot be cancelled once confirmed.
- Natural material varies. Color, texture, moisture, dust, and sizing can vary by quarry, supplier, season, and region.

Price : Great Punctuality : Great Communication : middling - I tried to help by telling them driver would have to turn around in cul-de-sac and reverse to sire. I even sat in cul-de-sac to flag them in. Driver flew by. Their fuel, but comms need improvement.

Excellent service from start to finish! I ordered 16 tons of driveway gravel, and everything went smoothly. Communication was great, and they made sure to arrange the right truck for the delivery since a larger truck wouldn’t fit in my driveway. The driver arrived on time and placed the gravel exactly where I wanted it. I really appreciate how easy they made the whole process. I highly recommend them!

Frequently Asked Questions
Use the calculator with your length, width, and depth. A 2 to 3 inch layer gives full coverage. One cubic yard covers about 105 square feet at 3 inches deep.
Lava rock weighs about a third as much as most gravel. Selling it by volume means you pay for coverage, not weight.
It's a natural dark charcoal to black. Some pieces show a brownish or reddish tint, and the surface looks lighter when dry and darker when wet. Shade varies by location.
Dark stone warms up in full sun, more than light-colored rock. That's fine for shrubs, succulents, and heat-loving plants. Keep a little space around the stems of tender plants.
It's rough and porous, so wear gloves when you spread it. It's not a good fit for bare-foot areas, play areas, or dog runs.
By dump truck, straight to your property. The driver dumps it in one pile where you choose. Pick a firm, level spot the truck can reach, clear of cars and overhead wires. Delivery is included in the price you see.
