Black Gravel
Dark gray to black 1/2–3/4" crushed stone for beds and borders
Black gravel is an angular decorative stone in natural shades from dark gray to black, crushed to roughly 1/2 to 3/4 inch. It reads lighter when dry and turns deeper, close to black, when wet. The clean, modern look pairs well with white stone, green plants, and light hardscape. Use it in beds, borders, and around pools and patios. Rock type and exact shade vary by location (basalt, black granite, or dark trap rock), and size varies slightly.
Black gravel is angular 1/2 to 3/4 inch decorative stone in natural shades from dark gray to black, not dyed rock that washes out. Rock type and shade vary by location.
Also called: black star gravel, black landscape rock, black basalt, black decorative stone, dark landscape rock, charcoal gravel.

How it works
- We fix what we control. Wrong material, confirmed fulfillment errors, or orders we cannot complete are reviewed for replacement, refund, or another fair resolution.
- Safe delivery comes first. The driver chooses the final safe dump location on site. If your requested spot is not safely reachable, we deliver to the closest safe location available.
- Plans change. You can cancel free up to one full business day before delivery. Next-business-day orders cannot be cancelled once confirmed.
- Natural material varies. Color, texture, moisture, dust, and sizing can vary by quarry, supplier, season, and region.

Black gravel is the dark decorative option. Pick river rock for a softer natural color mix, or decomposed granite for a warm, walkable surface.

I work for an industrial construction company that deals with a lot of civil work, and I'm very accustomed to building a proper base with specific materials on projects we work on. The people at Hello Gravel were very pleasant to deal with. Prices are good. Unfortunately, the product I asked for wasn't available after paying for it, but they worked hard at ensuring I had a suitabe alternative. In the end, it all worked well, and the staff were very attentive. Lots of operators would not have gone through the trouble they did to make sure I was happy as a customer. Hello Gravel did

Frequently Asked Questions
Use the calculator with your length, width, and depth. Decorative beds usually take 2 to 3 inches. One ton covers about 115 square feet at 2 inches deep.
It depends on where you are. In some areas it's black basalt or black granite; in others the darkest local stone is a dark gray, like trap rock. Every option reads darker when wet. If you need a true jet black, call us before you order and we'll tell you what's available near you.
Dark stone reads lighter gray when dry and deeper when wet. Both are normal, and the photos on this page show the range.
No. The color is natural to the stone, so it won't wash off or fade the way dyed rock can.
Yes, dark stone soaks up more sun than light stone and gets warm in summer. Keep it out of bare-foot areas and away from heat-sensitive plants in full sun.
Yes. Black gravel and white marble chips make a sharp contrast in bands or borders. Put edging between them so the colors don't blend over time.
By dump truck, straight to your property. The driver dumps it in one pile where you choose. Pick a firm, level spot the truck can reach, clear of cars and overhead wires. Delivery is included in the price you see.
