  • The owner controls the building or has formal authorization.
  • A qualified professional can establish structural, drainage, and code feasibility.
  • The owner can sign maintenance, access, and reporting agreements.

Compare the benefit mechanism before comparing headline amounts. Ask who pays first, what proof is required, when the benefit arrives, whether it is a check or account credit, and what happens if the final cost is higher than expected.

Stop and check: Do not treat a green roof as a normal landscaping purchase. Structural capacity, waterproofing, code, drainage, contractor qualifications, and long-term maintenance are central to eligibility and safety.

  • How long must access and performance obligations continue?

Get important answers in writing. If a contractor or supplier says a substitution is “basically the same,” ask the program to approve the exact change before installation.

FAQs

Can a homeowner install a small green roof and get the same grant?

Not necessarily. Many programs target larger buildings, nonprofit or commercial sites, or minimum project sizes.

Is a fee credit the same as grant funding?

No. A fee credit reduces a recurring charge and may not pay construction cost up front.

Can plants and growing media be ordered before approval?

Do not assume so. Engineered layers and approved construction documents usually control the specification.
