Mason sand with a C-144 designation is a finely graded, high-quality sand specifically manufactured to meet ASTM C-144 standards. The sand is typically produced by washing and screening natural sand deposits, resulting in a smooth, uniform texture free from debris and excessive dust.




The C-144 attribute is crucial for mortar mixes, as it provides the right balance of workability and strength, allowing for smooth, even joints in brick, block, and stonework. Its fine texture also makes it suitable for use as a base for pavers, in playgrounds, or for creating a level surface under above-ground pools. Pros include excellent bonding properties, easy troweling, and a clean finish. However, its fine nature means it is not ideal for drainage or as a structural base where compaction is required.
