Small Rip Rap

Small rip rap is a durable, coarse aggregate composed of angular or roughly shaped stones, typically produced by quarrying and breaking down larger rock. The “small” size range refers to pieces that are generally between 3” and 6” in diameter, making them more manageable than larger rip rap varieties while still providing substantial erosion control and structural stability.

This size is ideal for projects where space is limited or where a more refined appearance is desired without sacrificing performance. Small rip rap is commonly used for lining drainage ditches, protecting shorelines, reinforcing culvert inlets and outlets, and stabilizing slopes. Its angular shape helps the stones interlock, reducing movement and providing excellent resistance to water flow and soil erosion. While it is less decorative than some finer aggregates, small rip rap offers a practical balance between ease of installation and effective protection, making it a popular choice for both residential landscaping and commercial infrastructure projects.
