Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Walkway Gravel
A smaller ⅜” crushed stone that is great for paths, patios, and garden walkways. Comfortable under foot thanks to its smaller size, and creates a beautiful garden-like atmosphere.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why The Hammocks Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
The Hammocks is a growing community of 50,442 residents situated in a warm, sun-rich part of Florida with 228 sunny days annually, moderate annual rainfall of 33.69 inches, and USDA hardiness zone 8b. It sits inside a larger metro area of 2.3+ million people and is experiencing steady expansion at 0.69% annually, which drives ongoing home improvements, new landscaping, and small-scale construction. That steady demand makes reliable aggregates important: homeowners and contractors consistently need gravel for driveway bases, pathways, French drains, and erosion control. Gravel is favored here for permeability, durability under heavy sun exposure, and low upkeep compared with organic surfaces, and selecting the right size and gradation helps avoid settling and poor drainage on local soils.Popular Projects in The Hammocks This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - The Hammocks gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in The Hammocks.
Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum order. Delivery rates vary by material type, distance from local suppliers, and truck access; enter your zip code on our site or contact our team for an accurate quote. Standard delivery takes 2+ business days and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee.
For The Hammocks' sandy, humid conditions, angular crushed stone (3/4" minus or similar) and crushed limestone are good choices because they compact and lock together to resist rutting. Crushed shell is regionally popular for South Florida for drainage and local look, while pea gravel is decorative but tends to shift and needs edging for driveways.
Use this simple formula: area (sq ft) x depth (in) ÷ 324 = cubic yards, then multiply cubic yards by about 1.3–1.4 to estimate tons. For example, a 20 ft x 10 ft walkway (200 sq ft) at 3 inches deep needs about 200 x 3 ÷ 324 = 1.85 cubic yards, roughly 2.5 tons. You can also use our online material calculator for product-specific conversions.
Coverage depends on depth. As a rule of thumb, one ton covers about 116 sq ft at 2 inches, 77 sq ft at 3 inches, and 58 sq ft at 4 inches, using a common density of about 1.3–1.4 tons per cubic yard. For precise planning, check the specific product density on the product page or use our calculator.
In South Florida's rainy climate expect more frequent maintenance: light traffic paths may need refreshing every 1–3 years, while driveways with vehicle traffic typically need top-ups or regrading every 2–4 years. Good initial base, proper drainage, and edge restraints reduce maintenance frequency and help prevent washouts after heavy rains.
Crushed shell and pea gravel both drain very well because of their rounded shapes and void space; shells are especially popular locally for drainage and coastal aesthetics. Crushed limestone drains adequately and compacts better for load-bearing areas; it is often the best compromise for a durable, permeable driveway base in The Hammocks.
Drivers typically deliver from tri-axle dump trucks and will place material where safe and accessible, but exact placement depends on site access, overhead obstructions, and ground conditions. Request preferred drop location in Order Notes at checkout; tailgate spreading can be requested but is performed at the driver's discretion and is not guaranteed.
Materials in The Hammocks reflect South Florida geology, so color and shell content may vary by supplier and season. Expect materials that perform well in sandy soils and high humidity; mention any color or shell preferences in Order Notes and our team can help find the closest match from local suppliers.
Avoid scheduling major deliveries during the peak summer afternoon thunderstorm window when possible — mornings or non-rainy days reduce risk of washouts and tracking. Standard delivery requires 2+ business days; choose next-day delivery before noon CST if you need faster service and confirm a dry window if possible.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
