Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why Santa Fe Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Santa Fe is a growing West Texas community with a city population of 19,390 and a metro area population of 2.5+ million. Its measured annual growth rate of 0.70% and semi-arid climate—228 sunny days per year and an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches—drive steady demand for durable landscaping and sitework materials. Homeowners and contractors here are investing in erosion control, low-maintenance yards, and reliable access points that require quality aggregates. Gravel is a practical choice for driveways, pathways, drainage swales, and base layers because it balances permeability and stability. Local projects benefit from regionally sourced gravel that matches native soils and grades, and Santa Fe residents often prioritize clear ordering, accurate quantities, and scheduled delivery to keep projects on time and within budget.Popular Projects in Santa Fe This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Santa Fe gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Santa Fe.
In the Santa Fe area expect a delivered range rather than a single price: most common gravels run roughly $25 to $75 per ton, or about $35 to $100 per cubic yard delivered. Final price depends on type (pea gravel, crushed limestone, DG), your exact zip code, haul distance, and order size; Hello Gravel will provide an upfront delivered quote. Remember our minimum order is 3 tons and next-day delivery or special delivery windows may add fees.
For West Texas heat and arid conditions, crushed limestone and decomposed granite (DG) are top choices because they compact well and resist washout. Pea gravel and rounded river rock are good for decorative areas but can shift under vehicle traffic, while larger angular rock or caliche mixes are better for high-traffic driveways. Regional sourcing means textures and colors vary, so you can request color notes at checkout.
Hello Gravel partners with local suppliers and contracted haulers that regularly deliver to the Santa Fe area using dump trucks; delivery is included in many areas but depends on location. Some suppliers or drivers may offer tailgate spreading, but this is performed at the driver’s discretion and is not guaranteed; turnkey installation is less common and varies by supplier. Contact our team with your zip code and project details and we will check local installer availability and options.
Use this quick rule: cubic yards = (area in sq ft * depth in inches) / 324, and most gravels weigh about 1.3–1.5 tons per cubic yard. Example ranges: a 20x40 driveway (800 sq ft) needs about 7–15 cubic yards (10–21 tons) depending on 3" wearing layer or a 6" compacted base plus topping; a 10x10 patio (100 sq ft) needs about 0.6–1.2 cubic yards (1–1.7 tons) for 2"–4" depth; a 100 ft walkway at 3 ft wide (300 sq ft) needs about 1.8–3.7 cubic yards (2.5–5.2 tons) for 2"–4" depth. For driveways in West Texas we typically recommend a compacted base (6" or more) and a 2"–3" wearing layer for durability.
Hauling from a bigger quarry can be cost-effective when you need large volumes (often 20–30+ tons) or when a big quarry is relatively close so per-ton savings offset trucking. If the quarry is more than 30–75 miles away, trucking costs and fuel often negate price advantages, especially for smaller orders where minimums and delivery fees matter. Hello Gravel will compare local supplier pricing and larger-quarry options for your order and show the delivered cost so you can decide.
Stabilized or resin-bound gravel is available in parts of Texas but is less common in rural West Texas than in larger metro areas, and local installer availability can be limited. These systems create a firm, low-dust surface with less maintenance and better accessibility, but they cost more up front and some resins can be affected by extreme heat, so product selection and installer experience matter. If you want a quote, we can check local suppliers and installers and include material and installation pricing.
In Santa Fe's dry climate, light maintenance like regrading and filling ruts is usually needed every 1–3 years for residential driveways, with top-ups (adding 1–2" of new material) every 2–5 years depending on traffic. Small top-ups often cost a few hundred dollars for a yard or two; larger replenishments follow per-ton delivered pricing. Regular maintenance (grading after rains and keeping drainage clear) is the most cost-effective way to extend a gravel surface's life.
For slope stabilization use angular, larger-sized materials that resist movement, such as 1"–3" crushed rock, 2"–6" riprap, or rock check dams and gabions for steeper or high-flow areas. Combine rock with erosion-control fabric, terraces, or vegetation to reduce runoff velocity and prevent undercutting. For specific slope angles and flow conditions, consult our team so we can recommend the right product and quantity for your site.
Possibly; local city or county rules and HOA covenants vary across the Santa Fe area, and some ordinances control front-yard landscaping, driveway materials, drainage, and curb cuts. Before ordering, check your city or county planning department and your HOA rules, and share permit or setback needs with our team so we can advise on suitable materials and delivery constraints. We can also provide material specifications to support permit applications if needed.
A durable gravel driveway typically uses a well-compacted crushed-stone base (6"–8"), geotextile fabric to separate subgrade, firm edging to retain material, and a 2"–3" wearing layer of angular gravel; frequent compaction and correct drainage are essential in West Texas. Some local suppliers or contractors offer full installation, but availability varies by supplier and project size; Hello Gravel can check which partners near you provide installation or recommend contractors. You can request tailgate spreading at checkout, but spreading is done at the driver’s discretion and is not guaranteed.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
