Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Walkway Gravel
A smaller ⅜” crushed stone that is great for paths, patios, and garden walkways. Comfortable under foot thanks to its smaller size, and creates a beautiful garden-like atmosphere.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why Hondo Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Hondo is a small but growing West Texas community with a city population: 10,670 and ties to a larger metro area population: 2.5+ million. With a growth rate: 1.20% annually and a semi-arid climate—hardiness zone: 8b, annual rainfall: 26.00 inches, and about 218 sunny days each year—local homeowners and contractors are seeing steady demand for durable, low-maintenance landscaping and delivery-ready materials. New construction, driveway repairs, and water-conscious landscaping projects are common as residents adapt to sunny, sometimes intense seasonal weather. That combination of steady growth and challenging climate leads homeowners to prioritize quality aggregates that control erosion, improve drainage, and reduce long-term maintenance, which is why dependable gravel deliveries are a frequent need in Hondo.Popular Projects in Hondo This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Hondo gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Hondo.
Delivery costs vary by supplier, distance, and load size. Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum and offers standard delivery within 2+ business days, with next-day available (fee applies) for orders placed before noon CST. Many customers in Hondo see delivery included or a small haul fee for nearby pits, while longer rural runs or small orders can incur additional haul charges; expect local delivery fees to commonly fall within a modest range depending on those factors. For an exact price, check your zip code on our site or get a quote from our team.
Local suppliers near Hondo and across West Texas commonly stock crushed limestone, #57 stone, #3 (larger base rock), river rock, and decomposed granite. Crushed limestone and #57 are among the most common, versatile, and cost-effective choices for driveways and pads, while decorative river rock and decomposed granite typically cost more per ton. Prices depend on material rarity, truckload size, and regional supply, so use Hello Gravel to compare local supplier quotes for a direct price comparison.
Hondo’s hot, dry summers and occasional heavy rains mean dust, loosening, and washouts are common concerns. Choose angular, well-graded crushed stone for better compaction and resistance to movement, and plan for crown grading and good drainage to shed water during storms. Expect to regrade and add material periodically after heavy rains or seasonal use; using geotextile fabric and proper edge restraints can reduce long-term maintenance.
A good rule of thumb: 2" depth uses about 8.6 tons per 1,000 sq ft, 3" uses about 13.0 tons per 1,000 sq ft, and 4" uses about 17.3 tons per 1,000 sq ft. For smaller areas, that works out to roughly 0.86, 1.30, and 1.73 tons per 100 sq ft for 2", 3", and 4" depths respectively. Remember Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum, so small patch jobs may require ordering the minimum amount or combining projects to avoid extra delivery charges.
Hello Gravel connects customers with local suppliers and haulers, and many of those partners also offer installation or can recommend local contractors. We suggest requesting contractor or installer referrals during checkout or contacting our sales team for recommendations. For cost, expect small grading and spreading jobs to be quoted by the contractor based on equipment, access, and scope; larger projects are usually quoted as a lump sum after site assessment.
Common issues include erosion and washboarding from rainfall and traffic, rutting from heavy loads, and weed growth in the surface. Prevent with a crowned profile for drainage, proper compaction, periodic regrading, edge restraints, and weed control measures (weed fabric or herbicide where appropriate). For repairs, redistribute and regrade material, add fresh aggregate where thin, and consider geotextile and additional base rock in trouble spots.
For heavy equipment and frequent heavy truck traffic, build a strong base of large, angular rock (commonly 2" to 3" clean rock or #3) compacted in lifts to 8"-12" minimum, then top with a 2"-3" wearing layer of #57 or similar crushed stone. Install geotextile fabric over soft soils, ensure proper drainage, and compact each lift thoroughly with heavy compaction equipment. Deeper, well-compacted bases reduce rutting and washouts under West Texas conditions.
Permit requirements vary by location: within Hondo city limits contact the City of Hondo public works for driveway and right-of-way rules, and for properties on county roads check Medina County offices for driveway permit requirements and culvert rules. If your work ties into a state highway or state-maintained road, you may also need TxDOT approval. Always check with local authorities before starting work to confirm any permit, culvert, or setback requirements.
Provide a clear delivery address with zip code, preferred delivery date, best drop location, and any access constraints (gates, low-hanging lines, narrow driveways). Note desired material and color preferences in the Order Notes, request tailgate spreading there if you want the driver to consider it (subject to their discretion), and confirm the 3-ton minimum and truck type so the driver can plan access and drop placement. Clear instructions speed delivery and reduce the chance of surprises on arrival.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
