Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why Merit Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Merit is a small West Texas community with a city population of 353 that is seeing measured growth at about 0.40% annually. Though Merit itself is compact, it sits within a larger metro area of 2.5+ million, linking local project needs to broader regional development. With 225 sunny days a year, 34.70 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b, homeowners here balance long dry spells with occasional heavy rains—conditions that create steady demand for durable, low-maintenance aggregates. Gravel is frequently chosen for driveways, drainage, erosion control, and low-water landscaping because it handles sun exposure, sheds stormwater, and requires minimal upkeep. Clear guidance on stone size, base preparation, and reliable delivery matters in Merit, where regional sourcing and local geology shape color and texture.Popular Projects in Merit This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Merit gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Merit.
Costs vary by material, quantity, and how far suppliers must travel from larger West Texas distribution centers. Expect to pay per ton for material plus possible rural delivery fees for Merit; Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum and often includes free delivery in closer service areas but rural addresses can incur extra mileage charges. For an exact price, enter your zip code on our site or request a quote—we will show material price, delivery fee, and available delivery dates.
For Merit’s heat and low rainfall, angular crushed stone (for example 3/4" crushed stone or 57 stone) and crushed limestone perform best because they lock together and resist rutting. Avoid very fine, dusty materials alone; they can blow away and track more in dry conditions. If you want a smooth walking surface, consider a top layer of finer washed gravel over a stable crushed base.
A good rule: 1 cubic yard of gravel is roughly 1.4 tons, so calculate by volume and convert to tons for ordering. Examples: a small single-car driveway (10' x 20' at 4" depth) is about 2.5 cubic yards or roughly 3.5 tons; a larger two-car driveway (20' x 50' at 4") is about 11 cubic yards or ~15.5 tons; a 12' x 20' parking pad with a 6" base is about 4.4 cubic yards or ~6.2 tons. Use our material calculator or call our team for a site-specific estimate.
Merit and much of West Texas have shallow soils, caliche or clay layers, and spots that channel sudden storm runoff, which can cause settling or washouts under gravel. For that reason, plan for a well-compacted base, consider geotextile fabric on soft spots, and slope surfaces to shed water away from structures. If your site is low-lying or near drainage paths, increase base thickness and add edge restraints to reduce erosion.
'Gravel' is a broad term that can include rounded river rock or angular crushed stone; crushed limestone is a common local choice because it compacts and binds well for driveways. Decomposed granite makes a smooth, natural-looking walking surface but is less durable under heavy vehicle use and can wash in intense rains. For Merit driveways, crushed stone or limestone is usually more durable; decomposed granite is better for low-traffic paths and decorative areas.
Hello Gravel works with local suppliers and contracted haulers; standard delivery is 2+ business days and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST at an extra cost. Minimum orders are 3 tons and deliveries are made by dump truck (typically tri-axle), so remote or narrow-access Merit properties may incur additional fees or require a different drop location. You can request tailgate spreading at checkout, but drivers perform spreading only at their discretion and we cannot guarantee it.
In Merit’s climate you should expect to regrade and add material periodically—light maintenance like raking and filling ruts every 1 year and more thorough replenishment every 3 to 7 years depending on traffic and rainfall. Properly built gravel driveways with a compacted base and good drainage can last many years, while poor base work or uncontrolled runoff shortens lifespan. Using the right stone size and maintaining edges will reduce how often you need to add new gravel.
For heavy-use pads in Merit, start with a 4" to 6" compacted base of crusher-run or 3/4" to 1.5" angular rock, followed by a 1" to 2" top layer of 3/4" washed gravel for traction and drainage. Use geotextile fabric where soils are soft to limit mixing of subgrade and base, and compact each layer with a plate or roller. Add edge restraints and slope the pad slightly to direct stormwater away from structures.
Clear the drop area of vehicles and obstacles, mark any underground utilities, and confirm that a tri-axle dump truck can access your delivery point; if access is limited, arrange an alternate drop location. Add special instructions in Order Notes, request tailgate spreading if desired, and contact our team early for next-day needs since cutoffs apply before noon CST.
