Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why Center Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Center, West Texas, Texas, with a city population: 11,490 and located inside a metro area population: 2.5+ million, is a steady-growth community with an annual growth rate: 1.00%. The area sits in hardiness zone: 8b and gets 228 sunny days per year alongside annual rainfall: 35.50 inches, creating a climate that combines extended sun exposure with periodic heavy rain. Those conditions increase demand for durable, well-draining aggregates for driveways, drainage swales, erosion control, and low-maintenance landscaping. Homeowners in Center look for materials that resist sun-driven fading, reduce dust, and prevent washout during storms, so regionally sourced products that match local geology are especially important for reliable, long-lasting results.Popular Projects in Center This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Center gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Center.
Typical local retail prices near Center vary by product and size, but expect roughly $25 to $50 per ton (about $30 to $65 per cubic yard) as an estimated range. Hello Gravel lists a 3-ton minimum order and many areas include free delivery; standard delivery is 2+ business days and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. For an exact price for your zip code and product, request a quote through our site.
For Center’s heat and clay soils, angular crushed stone (3/4" crushed limestone or 57 stone) and crusher run/base rock are most commonly recommended because they lock together and compact well. Pea gravel is attractive and drains well but is rounded and can shift or rut on clay; use it only for low-traffic areas or over a stable base.
For a 12x50 (600 sq ft) area: 2" surfacing = ~3.7 cubic yards (~4.8 tons); full build (4" base + 2" surface) = ~11.1 cubic yards (~14.4 tons. For 20x50 (1,000 sq ft): 2" surfacing = ~6.2 cubic yards (~8.0 tons); full build = ~18.5 cubic yards (~24.1 tons). For a 10x1000 long rural drive (10,000 sq ft): 2" surfacing = ~61.7 cubic yards (~80.3 tons); full build = ~185.2 cubic yards (~240.7 tons). Adjust quantities for compaction and slopes; use our calculator or request help for exact numbers.
Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons, which aligns with many local suppliers. Delivery radius for small suppliers around Center typically ranges from 25 to 50 miles; rural drops outside that zone may incur additional fuel or trip fees and lead times. If you’re remote, request a delivery quote so we can confirm availability and any extra charges.
In Center’s hot summers and clay soils, angular crushed rock is generally better because the sharp edges interlock and resist rutting and washout during heavy rains. Rounded pea gravel drains well but moves more easily on clay and will require more frequent regrading, so it’s better for patios or low-traffic areas than primary driveways.
Start with a geotextile fabric on soft or clay ground, then add 4" to 6" of compactable base rock (crusher run) and compact with a roller or plate compactor. Crown the driveway (1/4" to 1/2" per foot) for runoff, install culverts or drive-through pipes at low spots, and provide edge restraint where possible to keep material contained. Proper base and drainage are especially important in Center because clay soils hold water and can heave.
Most Center homeowners regrade and top off their gravel every 1 to 3 years depending on traffic, rainfall, and initial build quality. Small residential driveways commonly require 1/4 to 1/2 ton per 100 sq ft for a light top-up; annual costs often run from about $100 to $500 for short residential drives, while long rural drives can be $500 to $2,000 or more depending on material and hauling. Regular maintenance like regrading, correcting drainage, and spot-adds will extend life and reduce large repair costs.
Gravel has the lowest upfront cost and is quick to install but requires regular maintenance; expect periodic topping and regrading. Asphalt and concrete cost more up front but need less frequent maintenance—typical lifespans are 15-20 years for asphalt (with periodic sealcoating) and 25+ years for concrete; pavers are durable and repairable but have higher initial cost. For many rural Center properties, gravel is a practical budget choice if you accept ongoing maintenance and good drainage.
Permitting and HOA rules vary: many rural Shelby County properties do not require a permit to replace pavement with gravel, but the City of Center or local HOAs may have specific standards or aesthetic rules. Before ordering, check with the City of Center planning or public works and review any HOA covenants to confirm restrictions or required setbacks.
Common product names you’ll see locally include crusher run (also called 3/4" minus), 57 stone, screenings, pea gravel, and base rock. Typical local retail price estimates are: screenings or crusher run $18 to $36 per ton, 57 stone $25 to $50 per ton, and pea gravel $30 to $60 per ton (roughly 1.3 tons per cubic yard). Prices vary by supplier, season, and delivery distance, so request a Hello Gravel quote for current local rates.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request the service at checkout but the driver will assess safety and access when they arrive. Hello Gravel does not guarantee spreading services, so plan for possible manual spreading or hire a local contractor if you need precise placement.
