Why Kensington Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Kensington is a community of 12,790 residents within a larger 7.9+ million metro area, and its modest 0.40% annual growth points to steady, incremental demand for housing updates and small-to-medium scale construction projects. That steady growth tends to produce consistent, predictable needs for landscaping repairs, driveway and patio refreshes, and targeted infrastructure work rather than sudden booms. Kensington’s climate — about 204 sunny days a year, 49.77 inches of annual rainfall, and classification in hardiness zone 9a — creates a mix of wet-season runoff concerns and long sun exposure that affects material choice. Homeowners and contractors here rely on a range of bulk supplies (gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and aggregates) for drainage, erosion control, planting beds, and hardscape bases. In this environment, quality and consistency matter: well-graded aggregates improve drainage after heavy rain, stabilized soils reduce erosion, and UV-resistant surface materials hold up under frequent sun. Buying the right volume and grade up front helps avoid delays, reorders, and extra truck fees.Popular Projects in Kensington This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Kensington Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Kensington.
A rough rule is to calculate area x depth. For example, a 10 ft x 20 ft patio at 3 inches deep uses about 1.8 cubic yards, while a 20 ft x 40 ft driveway at 4 inches deep uses about 8–11 cubic yards depending on compaction. Material weight varies by type, but plan on roughly 1.2–1.6 tons per cubic yard, so convert cubic yards to tons when ordering. Use our online calculator or contact the sales team for a site-specific estimate.
Kensington’s mild, wet winters and steep lots make drainage and erosion control top priorities. Choose materials that shed water and lock together for slopes; consider aggregate selection for stability, permeability, and long-term performance. Regional sourcing means texture and color will vary, so ask about local options for gravel, sand, dirt, stone that suit both function and appearance.
Common projects include driveways and parking pads, walkways and patios, grading and site prep, drainage trenches and dry creek beds, and raised planting beds or erosion control on slopes. Most of these projects can use a range of materials (gravel, sand, dirt, stone) depending on the performance needs and aesthetics. Contractors and DIYers both use bulk deliveries for larger or hard-to-source jobs.
Deliveries are typically made by tri-axle dump trucks, so narrow, steep, or gated streets may limit where trucks can safely unload. Expect to provide clear access instructions, confirm a preferred drop zone, and prepare for the driver to assess safety on arrival; tailgate spreading is available at the driver’s discretion. Schedule deliveries using our calendar, note access issues at checkout, and allow standard lead time of 2+ business days or request next-day service when available.
Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons; delivery cost depends on material type, distance from local supplier, order size, and seasonal demand. Because regional sourcing affects price, it’s best to get a quote for your zip code using our website calculator or by contacting our sales team. We show transparent pricing up front and can explain any fees like next-day delivery or special handling.
You should check with your city or county and any HOA before ordering, since some areas restrict visible surface materials, require design review, or need street parking permits for delivery trucks. Narrow streets or curbside restrictions can also require permits for blocked parking during drop-off. Hello Gravel can advise on access challenges, but obtaining permits and HOA approvals is the customer’s responsibility.
Late spring through early fall is usually best for spreading and compacting materials because soils are drier and weather is more predictable. Winter rains can delay work, affect compaction, and cause erosion on slopes, so plan around wetter months for grading or base installations. If you need winter delivery, choose materials and installation methods suited to wetter conditions and discuss timing with your contractor.
Tailgate spreading may be available but is performed at the driver’s discretion based on safety and site conditions; request the service at checkout and the driver will assess on arrival. To change an order, contact our team as soon as possible — we’ll do our best to accommodate changes before dispatch but cannot guarantee modifications after trucks are en route. All order updates are handled case-by-case and depend on supplier and truck schedules.
Choose materials based on function: durability and compaction for driveways, permeability for drainage features, and texture/color for landscaping accents; think of gravel, sand, dirt, stone as options that perform differently. DIY saves on labor but requires tools, time, and effort for proper grading and compaction; contractors bring experience, equipment, and speed for complex or slope-sensitive jobs. Use our aggregate quiz or talk to the sales team to match material properties to your project and skill level.
Clear the intended drop area of vehicles, toys, landscaping, and low branches so trucks can approach safely, and mark the exact placement for the load with cones or flags. Note any weight limits on driveways or private roads, inform neighbors if trucks need temporary parking, and add access notes in checkout so the hauler knows gate codes or preferred approaches. Proper preparation reduces delays and helps the delivery driver do a safe, efficient job.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
