Why Badger Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Badger has a city population of 165, sitting within a broader metro area with a population of 7.9+ million. That small-city scale combined with a steady growth rate of 0.40% annually means demand for home improvement and infill projects tends to rise gradually rather than spike. With 204 sunny days per year and annual rainfall of 49.77 inches in USDA hardiness zone 9a, homeowners and contractors here need materials that handle both long sun exposure and significant wet-season runoff. That mix drives interest in durable base materials for paths and driveways, well-graded soils and amendments for planting, and erosion-control supplies for slopes and drainage features. In this environment, quality aggregates, soils, mulches, and sands make the difference between installations that perform season after season and those that require frequent repairs. Trends toward outdoor living upgrades, rain-smart landscaping, and low-maintenance yards all point to steady, practical demand for a range of bulk materials.Popular Projects in Badger This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Badger Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Badger.
Start by choosing materials that work for multiple uses and are common in your area, which helps lower cost due to local availability. Order the right quantity to avoid overbuying and use delivery scheduling to avoid rush fees. Consider blending lower-cost base materials with small amounts of premium material for visual impact without a big price increase.
Clear and mark the drop zone, remove low-hanging branches, and flag any underground utilities or sprinkler heads. Make sure there is a clear path for a dump truck to access the site and leave a level area for the pile; if access is limited, note that in your order. Keep vehicles and people out of the delivery area during unloading for safety.
The 70/30 rule usually refers to using about 70 percent larger, structural elements and 30 percent finer or decorative elements in a garden bed. For material selection, choose structural materials (for example, base gravel or crushed stone) for drainage and stability, and finer materials (like sand or smaller stone) for top layers or planting beds. This balance helps with water movement, plant health, and finished appearance.
You may find free or low-cost materials from local construction companies, municipal road projects, or neighbors clearing property, but availability varies. Check community groups, municipal pick-up days, and landscape waste exchanges, and be cautious about quality and contaminants. If you order through Hello Gravel, regional sourcing means you often pay less because materials are local and delivery is coordinated.
The rule of 3 is a design guideline suggesting a primary, secondary, and accent material or plant type to create balance. Apply it to material selection by choosing a main groundcover (like gravel or dirt), a secondary material for contrast (smaller stone or sand), and an accent (decorative stone or boulders). This approach keeps the project visually cohesive and helps you order only what you need.
What $1,000 covers depends on the material and the project, but in general it can cover a few tons of gravel, several cubic yards of dirt or sand, or a modest amount of decorative stone for pathways or borders. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator to estimate quantities for your specific layout and get local pricing for a more accurate figure. Remember to budget for delivery and any site prep or spreading you may need.
Plan for at least a couple of hours on delivery day to inspect the pile, move materials where needed, and clean up; exact time depends on volume and whether you hire spreading help. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, but it is not guaranteed, so arrange extra help or equipment if you need more precise placement. Keep in mind site access and safety when scheduling.
For drainage, select materials with good void space and stability; for walking paths, choose harder, angular materials that compact well; for plant beds, pick finer, well-draining mixes. In many cases a combination of gravel, sand, dirt, stone can be layered to meet these needs—base layers for stability, top layers for appearance and function. Consider local climate and soil when deciding amounts and types.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide on the desired depth in inches, then convert to cubic yards or tons using an online calculator or Hello Gravel's material calculator. Because material density varies, calculators will give the best estimate; for an easier rule of thumb, one cubic yard of most aggregates is roughly 1.2 to 1.6 tons. When in doubt, round up slightly to account for compaction and grading.
Standard delivery typically requires 2 or more business days and many areas offer free delivery; next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Minimum orders start at around 3 tons and materials are delivered by local contracted dump trucks, often tri-axle. You can request tailgate spreading at checkout but drivers will assess safety on arrival and it is not guaranteed.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
