Why Johnson Ranch Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Johnson Ranch, with a city population of 25,000 and located within a metro area population of 2.3+ million, is seeing steady demand for residential and small-scale commercial projects driven by a 2.50% annually growth rate. That ongoing growth means more new builds, expansions, and outdoor upgrades—everything from driveways and patios to raised beds and drainage work. Combined with a USDA hardiness zone of 8b, 228 sunny days per year, and an annual rainfall of 33.20 inches, local conditions favor landscapes and construction that balance drought resilience with reliable stormwater handling. For homeowners that translates into practical needs for a range of bulk materials—soil blends and topsoil, sands and fines for leveling, heavier aggregates for structural bases, and organic mulches for plant health. Choosing quality, locally sourced aggregates and soils helps projects perform better over time, requiring fewer repairs and less rework in Johnson Ranch’s climate and growth-driven market.Popular Projects in Johnson Ranch This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Johnson Ranch Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Johnson Ranch.
Clear a path for the truck and designate a safe drop zone, removing low branches, vehicles, and obstacles. Protect driveways and lawns with plywood or by choosing a delivery area with good access, and provide gate codes or parking instructions in Order Notes. Mark utilities and sprinkler heads, and plan for where you want the material offloaded since drivers may not move material far from the truck.
Landscape supplies include bulk materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone, mulch, decomposed granite, and recycled aggregates. Hello Gravel connects you to local suppliers offering these options, and product pages explain appearance, typical uses, and local variations. Choose a material based on function—drainage, walkability, planting beds, decorative cover, or erosion control.
Measure the length and width of the area in feet, multiply for square feet, and decide the desired depth in inches. Use the formula: cubic yards = (square feet x depth in inches) / 324. Convert cubic yards to tons using the product-specific weight shown on the material page or our calculator, and round up to allow for compaction and slope.
One cubic yard (27 cubic feet) covers about 162 sq ft at 2" depth, 108 sq ft at 3" depth, and 81 sq ft at 4" depth. Weight varies by material: gravel, sand, and stone commonly range from about 1.2 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard; dirt and topsoil often fall between 1.0 and 1.3 tons; mulch is lighter, often 0.3 to 0.6 tons per cubic yard. Always check the specific product page for exact conversion used in your Johnson Ranch delivery.
Coverage per ton depends on the material's density; if a cubic yard weighs 1.4 tons, then 1 ton equals about 0.71 cubic yards. To find coverage, convert the ton to cubic yards using the material's tons-per-yard figure and then use the coverage per cubic yard (for example, 162 sq ft at 2"). Use our online calculator for a quick, product-specific result.
Yes—suppliers often offer recycled aggregates, reclaimed rock, compost-amended soils, and rubber or engineered mulches. Pros include diverting waste from landfills, longer life for some products, and reduced need for virgin materials; cons can be different appearance, heat retention with rubber products, and variable availability by region. Check product descriptions and request material details in Order Notes if you have environmental preferences.
A common mulch guideline labeled 3-3-3 typically refers to 3 inches of mulch depth while keeping mulch pulled a few inches away from plant stems to avoid rot; adjust depth by plant type. The 70/30 rule often applies to soil mixes (about 70% existing soil to 30% organic matter) or planting bed design; it helps you pick the right amount of compost, topsoil, or soil blend. Use these rules as starting points and choose materials that suit local conditions in Johnson Ranch, such as drainage and drought tolerance.
Generally, plain dirt/topsoil and basic decomposed materials are among the least expensive per yard, while decorative rock, specialty sands, and colored aggregates cost more. Prices vary by local supply, truck distance, and demand, so check pricing for your ZIP code and compare product pages. Consider combining a cheaper base layer (dirt or crusher fines) with a thinner top layer of decorative material to manage costs.
Alternatives include small decorative stone, crushed rock, landscape fabric or weed barrier, living groundcovers, and rubber mulch. Stone and fabric last longer and need less replacement but can increase heat and reduce soil moisture; living groundcovers improve soil and reduce heat but take time to establish. Pick the option that matches your goals for maintenance, appearance, drainage, and plant health.
Calculate square feet (7 x 14 = 98 sq ft), convert depth to feet (2" = 0.1667 ft), multiply to get cubic feet (98 x 0.1667 = 16.33 cu ft), then divide by 27 to get cubic yards (16.33 / 27 = 0.60 yd3). Round up to allow for settling and waste—so order at least 10% more and check our minimum order rules for Johnson Ranch. If you are near the 3-ton minimum, consider adding nearby small projects to use the full load efficiently.
