Why Boring Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Boring has a city population of 8,310 and is experiencing steady, measured growth at 0.40% annually. The town’s temperate setting (hardiness zone 8b) with 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall creates steady demand for reliable site work and landscaping materials. Homeowners and small contractors here are often working on grading, drainage, and foundation prep as properties evolve with that gradual growth. For many projects, quality fill-dirt is the difference between a stable yard and ongoing settlement or drainage problems. Homeowners seek clean, compactable material that layers well, supports lawns and driveways, and reduces erosion after heavy rains or long dry spells.Popular Projects in Boring This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Boring Fill Dirt Delivery
Everything you need to know about fill dirt delivery in Boring.
Hello Gravel sources fill-dirt from trusted local suppliers around West Oregon, so material reflects the local geology near Boring. Expect subsoil that is heavier and more clayey than topsoil, with natural color and texture variations; photos may not be an exact match. If you have specific preferences, add them in Order Notes and our team will try to accommodate regional availability.
Yes, fill-dirt is commonly used to raise low spots, build grade for foundations, and backfill trenches because it compacts well and provides structural support. For landscaping surfaces, pathways, or driveways you may need a gravel layer on top for drainage and stability. For drainage-sensitive areas near Boring’s wet winters, combine fill-dirt with proper slope and drainage plans.
Calculate cubic yards with this formula: (square feet of area x desired depth in inches) / 324 = cubic yards. For example, to raise 100 sq ft by 6 inches you need about (100 x 6) / 324 = 1.85 cubic yards. Multiply cubic yards by roughly 1.3 to estimate tons, then remember Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum order.
Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons for delivered materials across our network, including Boring. A rough conversion is about 1.2 to 1.5 tons per cubic yard for fill-dirt depending on moisture and compaction, so 3 tons typically equals about 2 to 2.5 cubic yards. Use our online calculator or contact our team for a precise estimate for your project.
Fill-dirt is usually subsoil and not formulated as planting topsoil; it lacks the organic matter plants prefer. For lawns, gardens, or areas used by animals, plan to spread a layer of topsoil or amend the fill-dirt with compost before planting. If you plan to use fill-dirt for pasture or edibles, consider soil testing for nutrients and contaminants first.
Spring through early fall is often easiest because drier conditions help compaction and grading work, and there are fewer weather delays in West Oregon. Deliveries are available year-round, but fall and winter rain can make sites muddy and slow progress, and drivers may limit tailgate spreading if conditions are unsafe. If you need winter delivery, plan for possible delays and let us know access issues in Order Notes.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service at checkout. They will assess safety and site conditions on arrival; spreading is not guaranteed and may be declined if access, overhead lines, or ground conditions make it unsafe. For planned spreading, consider hiring local labor or scheduling equipment like a skid steer.
Yes, Hello Gravel connects you with regional suppliers and contracted haulers serving the West Oregon area; deliveries to Boring are typically handled by local dump truck fleets. This regional sourcing keeps material consistent with local soils, but trucks are independent carriers and not Hello Gravel-branded. If you need information about the supplier or delivery window, our team can provide specifics after you enter your zip code.
Small deliveries and minor leveling work are often allowed, but larger fill, major grade changes, work near streams, or changes affecting drainage may require permits from Clackamas County. Rules vary by parcel, so contact Clackamas County planning or your local jurisdiction before significant earthwork. When in doubt, tell our team the project scope and we can remind you to check local permitting requirements.
Yes, for most yard and contractor projects bulk delivery is more cost-effective than buying many small bags because truckloads lower the per-ton price and reduce handling time. Hello Gravel’s 3-ton minimum makes bulk delivery worthwhile for most grading or yard-raising jobs, while bags can make sense for very small, precise landscaping tasks. Factor in delivery access, site prep, and spreading labor when comparing costs.
Clear the delivery area of cars, low branches, and obstacles; mark utilities and provide a flat, accessible spot for the dump truck to approach. Expect tri-axle dump trucks and tell us about tight driveways or overhead lines in Order Notes so the hauler can plan. If you need spreading, have tools or equipment ready and confirm whether the driver agreed to tailgate spread on arrival.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
