Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why snowcamp Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Snowcamp is a small but growing community with a city population of 1,000 set inside a broader West North Carolina region that supports a metro area of 2.3+ million. With a steady growth rate of 2.80% annually and a moderate climate—about 228 sunny days per year, 34.00 inches of annual rainfall, and hardiness zone 8b—local homeowners are increasingly taking on landscaping and light construction projects. That steady growth and comfortable climate drive demand for durable, locally sourced aggregates for driveways, drainage trenches, garden beds, and hardscaping. Homeowners choose quality gravel because it provides long-term performance, improved drainage in wet seasons, and a finished look that fits the region’s soils and plantings. Regional sourcing also means material color and texture will reflect Snowcamp’s local geology, so choosing the right gravel type up front helps avoid costly rework.Popular Projects in snowcamp This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - snowcamp gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in snowcamp.
Yes. Snow Camp is in West North Carolina where heavy mountain snow is rare but freeze-thaw and icy mornings do happen; a properly built gravel driveway drains well and holds up to light-to-moderate winter weather. Expect some seasonal maintenance like grading and adding material after freeze-thaw cycles.
A layered system is best: a compacted base of crusher run (mixed sizes with fines) and a top wearing layer of 3/4" crushed stone or #57 stone. The fines in the base help the surface bind and resist migration when plowing or during thaw cycles common to the area.
Yes, if the driveway has a stable base and adequate depth (typically several inches) you can plow it, but use care. Raise the plow blade slightly or use a rubber edge to avoid pulling out stone, and expect some surface displacement that you can fix with light grading in spring.
For traction, use sand or grit rather than chloride salts. If you need a chemical deicer, calcium chloride is less likely to displace gravel than rock salt when used sparingly, but all deicers can affect vegetation and metal, so apply only as needed and sweep up excess when possible.
Common downsides include ongoing maintenance (periodic grading and adding stone), dust in dry months, migrating stones toward edges, and potholes from freeze-thaw or heavy use. You may also need to reinstall edging or add more material after winters with frequent thaw/freeze events.
Estimate needed material by area and depth: multiply length × width × depth (in feet) to get cubic feet, divide by 27 for cubic yards, then multiply by about 1.3 tons per cubic yard. For example, a 20 ft long by 10 ft wide driveway at 3" depth is about 1.85 cubic yards or roughly 2.4 tons, so you would order the minimum 3 tons from Hello Gravel; material-only cost typically runs in the low hundreds of dollars depending on local rates, with additional contractor spreading/grading fees adding a few hundred more.
Yes. Hello Gravel sources regionally, so texture and color will reflect local geology around Snow Camp. If color matters, add a note at checkout and we will do our best to match preferences, but natural variation is expected.
Ensure a clear, accessible drop zone and tell us about tight turns, low-hanging wires, or weight-sensitive driveways before delivery. We use local dump trucks and drivers will assess the safest spot to unload; for tailgate spreading, request it at checkout but expect the driver to confirm feasibility on arrival.
Keep drainage clear so meltwater doesn’t pool and cause potholes, regrade soft spots in spring, and add fresh topstone after severe winters. Installing edge restraints and a solid base during installation reduces stone loss when plowing or during thaw cycles.
Hello Gravel has a minimum order of 3 tons, which often covers small repairs or patching for typical Snow Camp driveways. For very small jobs you can combine that delivery with multiple small repairs or consider buying bagged stone from local retailers, though delivery via Hello Gravel is usually more convenient and cost-effective for most homeowner needs.
