Why Letts Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Letts’ city population is 1,140, and it sits within a larger metro area population of 2.5+ million; with a steady growth rate of 0.40% annually, demand leans toward homeowner-driven projects and measured residential development rather than rapid speculative building. That steady growth means predictable needs for repairs, landscape upgrades, driveways, and small additions, so reliable bulk supplies are valuable. Letts’ climate—228 sunny days per year, annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, and a hardiness zone of 8b—creates a balance between wet-season drainage needs and sun-driven wear. Homeowners should consider a range of materials—gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone—for erosion control, planting beds, base layers, and hardscapes. Because local geology and weather affect how materials compact, settle, and weather, selecting the right gradation and finish is especially important in this area.Popular Projects in Letts This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Letts Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Letts.
Choose materials that balance drainage, compaction, and durability for Letts' freeze-thaw cycles. In practice, mixes that include durable aggregates and well-draining components work well for driveways and most landscaping; gravel, sand, dirt, stone blends can be used together to form a stable base and a wear surface. Expect regional color and texture variations due to local sourcing, and consider a compacted base under any finish layer for the best long-term performance.
Prices vary by material, local supplier, quantity, and delivery distance, but typical retail ranges in West Iowa are often between $20 and $75 per cubic yard. Heavier, screened, or specialty materials tend toward the higher end, and delivery, minimum order, and site access can add to the final cost; check your zip code for a tailored quote.
Avoid deliveries on saturated ground in spring when freeze-thaw and spring rains make sites soft and muddy; late spring through early fall is usually best for hauling and installing aggregates. Winter deliveries are possible but can be harder to place and compact on frozen or icy surfaces; plan for extra lead time and check weather forecasts when scheduling.
Hello Gravel connects you with trusted local suppliers and contracted haulers that serve Letts and surrounding West Iowa communities. Availability can vary by zip code and material, so enter your zip code on the site or contact our team to confirm coverage and lead times for your location.
Measure the project area in square feet, multiply by the desired depth in feet, then divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards (area x depth / 27 = cubic yards). For example, a 12 ft by 20 ft driveway at 4 inches (0.333 ft) deep needs about 3 cubic yards: (12 x 20 x 0.333) / 27 ≈ 3.
Open-graded, coarse materials that shed water and resist movement are commonly recommended for slopes, often combined with vegetation, terraces, or geotextile fabrics for extra stability. A layered approach using heavier aggregate at the toe of the slope and well-draining mixes upslope helps manage runoff and reduce erosion.
You may need permits for new driveway connections, curb cuts, or work in the public right-of-way; requirements can vary by municipal or county rules. Check with Letts city hall or Scott County before starting major work, and notify Hello Gravel if your delivery will involve street or right-of-way access so we can coordinate with the hauler.
Lifespan depends on material, use, and installation quality: properly installed aggregate surfaces can last 5 to 20+ years with periodic maintenance. Expect to regrade or add material every few years on driveways, control weeds, and maintain drainage to extend life; heavier-use areas may need refreshes sooner.
Lower-cost materials can save money upfront but often require more frequent topping up and maintenance, while more robust materials and proper base construction cost more initially but reduce long-term upkeep. Consider your budget, expected traffic, and willingness to maintain the surface when choosing between short-term savings and long-term performance.
Contractors typically emphasize good drainage, a well-compacted base, and avoiding fine silty fills that hold water and freeze, because trapped moisture accelerates freeze-thaw damage. Choosing mixes that drain easily and installing proper subgrade and edge restraints helps prevent frost heave and improves longevity.
Clear the intended drop area of vehicles, low branches, and obstacles, and identify a safe place for the truck to pull up; most deliveries come by dump truck (typically tri-axle) and require sufficient access and turning room. If you want tailgate spreading, request it at checkout and understand it is done at the driver's discretion; our minimum order is 3 tons and lead times start at 2 business days.
Natural materials vary regionally, so color and texture may differ from photos; if something looks off or you need a change, contact our customer service as soon as possible and we will work to resolve the issue. Changes are easiest before the order is dispatched, and we will explain next steps and any applicable policies.
