Why Indianapolis Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Indianapolis, with a city population of 831,869 and a broader metro area population of 2.6+ million, is experiencing steady expansion that translates directly into steady demand for construction and landscaping materials. A growth rate of 1.80% annually means more home renovations, new builds, and public projects that need reliable supplies—everything from base material for driveways to soil for planting beds. The local climate—228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall—along with a hardiness zone of 8b, shapes what materials work best here: drainage-friendly aggregates, frost-resistant base mixes, and organic products that support a longer growing season. As mixed-use development and infrastructure upgrades continue across the metro, homeowners and contractors alike benefit from sourcing quality bulk materials that match regional geology and weather patterns to reduce rework and extend project life.Popular Projects in Indianapolis This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Indianapolis Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Indianapolis.
Start by defining the project's purpose (driveway, walkway, patio, grading, erosion control) and the performance you need (drainage, load-bearing, appearance). Consider local climate and soil—freeze-thaw and wet springs in Indianapolis can affect settling and drainage. Use our material calculator and aggregate quiz or contact our team for personalized guidance based on project size and site conditions.
Choose a material based on load, compaction needs, and look rather than a brand name; some materials compact well for driving surfaces while others are better for drainage or decorative uses. Add proper base preparation, edging, and a compacted layer to improve performance in freeze-thaw cycles. If you are unsure, our team can recommend options that balance durability and maintenance for your project type.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide the depth you want, then convert to volume: cubic feet to cubic yards (1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet). Typical depths are 2-4 inches for walkways and 4-6 inches for driveways, then convert cubic yards to tons using our online calculator since material density varies. Use our calculator or contact us with your dimensions and we will help estimate quantities.
Indianapolis has freeze-thaw cycles and seasonally wet soils that can cause settling and drainage issues if not addressed. Choose materials and preparations that promote drainage and resist freeze-thaw damage, and consider geotextile fabric or a compacted base in low spots. Regional sourcing also means texture and color can vary, so plan for local variation in appearance.
Spring and summer are the busiest seasons for outdoor projects, so ordering early can secure your preferred delivery date. Winter deliveries are possible but may be limited by weather and site accessibility; plan ahead for projects during freeze-thaw periods. We offer standard delivery in 2+ business days and a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST for added flexibility.
Evaluate slopes, water flow, and low spots before choosing materials; promoting surface drainage is often more effective than adding more material. Use proper base preparation, grading, and edge restraint to prevent washout, and consider permeable options where surface runoff is a concern. For larger erosion or stormwater projects, consult local code and consider hiring a contractor for design and installation.
Possibly—many HOAs have rules about surface materials, colors, and curb appeal, and some city projects may require permits for major grading or changes that affect drainage. Check with your HOA and the City of Indianapolis planning or public works department before starting larger projects. For smaller landscape updates, document approvals and plan notes to avoid rework.
Standard delivery typically requires 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You can choose a preferred delivery date during checkout; confirmed timing depends on supplier and hauler schedules. We provide estimated windows but cannot guarantee exact arrival times.
Our minimum order is 3 tons for bulk materials, and deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets, typically tri-axle trucks. Materials are regionally sourced, so texture and color may vary by supplier. If you have access limits or tight spaces, let us know at checkout so drivers can plan the best drop location.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service at checkout, but it is not guaranteed. The driver will assess site conditions on arrival and decide whether spreading can be done safely. If precise placement is required, prepare for manual spreading or hire a spreading service.
Pricing reflects the type and quantity of material, delivery distance, local supplier rates, and seasonal demand. Our site shows transparent pricing and many areas receive free delivery, but some orders may incur additional fees for next-day service or difficult access. Request a quote or check your zip code at checkout for a full cost breakdown.
Natural materials vary by region, so color and texture may differ from photos; if you are concerned, add notes to your order or contact us before delivery. For delivery issues or material concerns, contact customer service promptly with photos and order details and we will work to resolve the problem according to our policies. Refer to our refund policy for details on acceptable resolutions.
Contact our team as soon as possible—changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to modify or cancel orders, but changes may not be possible once the supplier and hauler are scheduled. Always confirm changes in writing or via your order confirmation to avoid misunderstandings.
Keep materials covered and on a level surface to prevent contamination and washout, and avoid mixing different materials together. Place deliveries close to the work area for easier spreading and protect lawns or paved surfaces from truck damage. For load-bearing surfaces, follow compaction and grading recommendations to reduce settling.
