Why Fairmont Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Fairmont is a community of 14,000 residents within a broader region that serves a metro area of 2.6+ million, and its steady growth rate of 1.20% annually points to ongoing demand for modest but consistent residential and infrastructure work. That steady expansion means homeowners are regularly tackling projects like driveways, patios, grading, planting beds, and small additions — projects that all rely on reliable bulk materials. Fairmont’s climate (hardiness zone 8b, roughly 228 sunny days per year and 35.50 inches of annual rainfall) supports year-round work but also creates specific needs: UV exposure and dry periods favor durable, stable aggregates and mulches that resist breakdown, while moderate rainfall increases the importance of drainage-grade sands, base materials, and soil blends that manage water without eroding. In this environment, accessible, locally sourced gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and other aggregates help homeowners build longer-lasting surfaces and landscapes suited to local weather patterns.Popular Projects in Fairmont This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Fairmont Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Fairmont.
Start by matching the material to the job: think about drainage, load-bearing needs, and desired appearance. For driveways and heavy-use areas choose materials that compact well and resist rutting; for planting beds and paths prioritize texture and drainage. Consider local climate and maintenance needs, and use our material quiz or contact the sales team for help deciding between options like gravel, sand, dirt, and stone.
Fairmont’s seasonal freeze-thaw means you should pick materials that drain well and resist frost heave for any surface exposed to water and freezing. Well-graded aggregates that allow water to pass through are better for base layers, while top layers should shed water and resist displacement. Regional sourcing can affect performance, so ask our team about local materials suited to West Illinois conditions.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, with a next-day option available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by local contracted dump truck fleets, and you can select a preferred delivery date during checkout. We will confirm delivery details after your order and provide guidance if access or scheduling issues arise.
Our minimum order is 3 tons. Delivery is by dump truck (often tri-axle), so you need sufficient turning radius and a stable surface for the truck; narrow lanes, low-hanging wires, or soft ground can limit access. If access is tight, note any constraints in Order Notes and our team will coordinate with the hauler to find the safest delivery solution.
Use our online material calculator or provide project dimensions (length, width, and depth) to get an estimate; calculators account for coverage and compaction. Because different materials compact and spread differently, we recommend ordering a little extra (often 5-10%) to allow for grading and settling. If you’re unsure, contact our sales team with project details and we’ll help refine the quantity.
Costs include the material price, delivery fee (which may be free in many areas), and any optional services like expedited delivery or tailgate spreading. Distance to local suppliers, seasonal demand, and truck access can affect the final price. We provide clear pricing at checkout and our team can walk through any charges before you confirm your order.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and depends on safety and site conditions. You can request spreading at checkout, and the driver will assess feasibility upon arrival. For precise spreading or larger grading work, hire a landscape contractor who can provide a guaranteed spreading service.
Because Hello Gravel sources materials locally, texture, color, and particle shape will reflect West Illinois geology and can vary from pictures. These regional differences can influence how materials compact and drain, so we recommend noting color or texture preferences in your Order Notes. If exact matching is critical, contact our team before ordering to discuss available local options.
Spring through early fall is the most convenient for most outdoor projects due to drier ground and more predictable weather, but deliveries are possible year-round. Avoid scheduling large deliveries during freeze-thaw extremes or when access is likely to be muddy, as truck access and spreading may be limited. If you need material in winter, plan extra time and check local conditions with our team before scheduling.
Contractors should confirm site access, staging area, and any local permit requirements before ordering. Provide clear directions and any gate codes at checkout so haulers can reach the drop-off point, and coordinate with us for larger or multiple deliveries to optimize routing. If special permits or road closures are required, handle those with local authorities in advance to avoid delays.
Contact our team as soon as possible; we can often accommodate changes before the order is processed or dispatched but cannot guarantee changes once the truck is on the way. Adding material may require a new delivery or a re-quote depending on timing and availability. For fastest service call 855-241-8884 or text 844-407-3734 with your order details.
Document the issue with photos and contact customer service promptly so we can investigate with the supplier and hauler. Because natural materials vary regionally, some variation in color and texture is expected; we’ll work to resolve genuine quality or delivery problems in line with our policies. For guidance on acceptability and next steps, reach out to our team and we’ll explain options.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.

This involves pulling the truck forward as material is being dumped to make it easier for you to distribute material after delivery.
