Why St. Petersburg Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
St. Petersburg has a city population of 258 and sits within the larger Tampa-St. Petersburg metro area, which is home to 2.3+ million residents. With a growth rate of 3.20% annually, that steady expansion is increasing demand for residential renovations, new landscaping, and small-scale construction—all of which rely on bulk materials like gravel, sand, soil, mulch, and stone. The local climate—about 228 sunny days per year and roughly 34.00 inches of annual rainfall—creates cycles of intense sun and occasional heavy rain that influence how materials perform. Homeowners in this market need materials chosen for drainage, durability in sun and humidity, and resistance to washout. Sourcing regionally appropriate aggregates and scheduling reliable delivery are therefore essential to achieve long-lasting outdoor projects and to keep timelines predictable as the area continues to grow.Popular Projects in St. Petersburg This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - St. Petersburg Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in St. Petersburg.
Start with the project's purpose: load-bearing surfaces need a stable base, while decorative beds focus on appearance and weed control. Consider drainage, maintenance, and coastal exposure when choosing among gravel, sand, dirt, and stone, and request samples or photos to confirm color and texture. Use our material calculator and aggregate quiz to estimate quantities and get guidance for common local projects.
St. Petersburg's heat, humidity, frequent rain, and coastal salt air all influence material choice. Choose materials that drain well and resist breakdown in wet conditions, and avoid fine materials in areas prone to erosion during heavy showers. Expect regional variation in texture and color due to local geology.
For structural bases, pick materials that compact and shed water; for walking surfaces, choose sized aggregates that provide traction and limit tracking. For grading or fill use stable, low-organic mixes to avoid settling. Consider the same group of options—gravel, sand, dirt, stone—based on load, appearance, and drainage needs.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth to calculate cubic yards, then convert to tons using the material's density or use our online calculator for an estimate. Add 5-15% for compaction and waste depending on the project and how the material will be placed. If in doubt, contact our team with site dimensions for help before ordering.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is often available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries arrive on tri-axle dump trucks, with a minimum order of 3 tons, and drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion. Choose your preferred delivery date at checkout and make sure the drop area is accessible and clear.
Costs vary by material type, distance, volume, and site access, but delivered aggregate prices in the region often range from about $30 to $80 per ton. Delivery fees, mobilization, and optional services can add to the total, so ask for an itemized quote. We recommend comparing quotes and considering the total installed cost, not just the per-ton price.
Some projects require city or county permits and many neighborhoods have HOA rules about driveways, visible materials, and coastal setbacks. Check St. Petersburg and Pinellas County permit requirements and review your HOA guidelines before ordering. If you need documentation for approvals, request product specs or photos to share with your jurisdiction or association.
Aim for the drier months—typically late fall through spring—when ground conditions are more stable and rain delays are less likely. Avoid major earthwork during the summer rainy and hurricane season when heavy storms are common. Contractors often schedule grading and compaction work during dry windows to reduce delays and extra costs.
Clear a level area and remove obstacles like low-hanging branches, lawn furniture, and vehicles to allow the truck to get close to the drop point. Make sure the surface can support a heavy truck and mark the preferred drop zone with stakes or flags. If access is limited, notify our team ahead of time so we can advise on alternate delivery options.
Because of heavy rainfall and coastal conditions, prioritize materials and layouts that encourage infiltration and direct water away from structures. Use properly graded base layers, perimeter drainage features, and erosion-control aggregates where slopes are present. Consult local recommendations for setbacks and stormwater rules when designing drainage solutions.
Because materials are regionally sourced, texture and color can vary from photos, so expect natural variation. Contact our team as soon as possible to request changes—modifications are easier before orders are dispatched and we'll do our best to accommodate you. For issues after delivery, reach out to customer service so we can review options according to our policies.
Quotes typically separate material costs (by ton or cubic yard) from hauling, spreading, and labor, and may include mobilization or permit fees. Ask for an itemized quote that lists material type, estimated volume, delivery terms, and any optional services. Comparing itemized bids helps homeowners and contractors make informed choices about materials and scheduling.
