Why Jefferson County Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel

Jefferson County homeowners are part of a growing Tennessee Region centered on Raleigh, where the city population is 54,093 and the broader metro area population is 1.4+ million. The area is expanding at about 2.00% annually, which creates steady demand for new driveways, patios, erosion control, and landscaping projects that rely on quality aggregates. With a temperate climate in hardiness zone 7b, roughly 213 sunny days per year, and about 45.00 inches of annual rainfall, local soils range from clay-rich patches to sandy loams—conditions that make correct aggregate selection important. Homeowners seek gravel that balances drainage, stability, and curb appeal: materials that shed water during wet stretches, resist rutting under vehicle traffic, and provide a finished look for garden and yard projects. Picking the right size and type of gravel reduces maintenance and helps outdoor work last longer.

Frequently Asked Questions - Jefferson County gravel Delivery

Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Jefferson County.

How much does one ton of gravel cost in Jefferson County, TN?

Prices vary by type and supplier, but in Jefferson County expect most common gravels to range roughly $25 to $60 per ton delivered. Specialty stones (decorative river rock, colored gravels) are usually higher. Exact pricing depends on material type, delivery distance, and current local supply — get a zip-code quote on our site for an exact number.

What does a full dump truck of pea gravel usually cost?

A typical tri-axle dump truck in our network carries about 10 to 12 tons of material. Using local Jefferson County rates, a full truck of pea gravel often runs in the several-hundred to low-thousand-dollar range depending on tonnage and material quality. For an accurate price we recommend requesting a delivery quote for your address and desired material.

How much will 10 cubic yards of pea gravel cost in Jefferson County?

Pea gravel prices per cubic yard in this region commonly land between about $30 and $70 per cubic yard delivered. That makes 10 cubic yards roughly $300 to $700 before any extra fees for spreading or special delivery. Final cost depends on supplier, seasonal demand, and access at your delivery site.

What are the main types of gravel I should consider locally?

The most common categories used in Jefferson County are crushed stone (angular rock like #57), pea gravel (small rounded stones), and river rock (larger, smooth stones). Crushed stone is good for driveways and base layers, pea gravel for patios and drainage, and river rock for decorative beds and edging. Local geology means color and texture can vary from supplier to supplier.

How many tons does a dump truck hold when delivering gravel?

Our delivery fleet typically uses tri-axle dump trucks that carry about 10 to 12 tons of gravel, though actual capacity can vary by truck and the gravel's density. Smaller tandem axles or larger trucks will carry different amounts. Your Hello Gravel quote will list the expected truck size and estimated tonnage for the order.

Which type of gravel is the most budget-friendly to put down?

Base-oriented crushed materials (crusher run, fines, or aggregate base) are usually the least expensive per ton in Jefferson County because they are quarried for mass use. They compact well and are cost-effective for driveways and underlayment but are less decorative than pea gravel or river rock. Consider tradeoffs between price, appearance, and performance for your project.

How much will a 20-foot-wide gravel driveway cost to install?

Cost depends on the driveway length and depth. For example, a 20-foot-wide by 100-foot-long driveway at a 3-inch depth needs about 19 cubic yards of gravel; at $30 to $60 per cubic yard material cost would be roughly $570 to $1,140, plus delivery and any compaction or base prep fees. Jefferson County soils and drainage needs may require additional base or grading work, which increases total cost.

What are the downsides of using pea gravel?

Pea gravel moves and shifts under traffic, so it can be noisy and less stable for driveways or areas with heavy vehicles. It can get caught in mower decks, make walking or pushing carts awkward, and may migrate off paved edges without proper restraints. That said, it drains well and is attractive for patios and decorative areas when contained.

Will one cubic yard of gravel fit in my pickup truck?

Physically, some full-size pickup beds can hold close to 1 cubic yard when loaded level, but weight limits often make that unsafe. Gravel is heavy — 1 cubic yard can weigh roughly 1.2 to 1.8 tons depending on material — so you may exceed your truck's payload even if the bed looks like it fits. For safety and convenience, deliveries through Hello Gravel are a better option for larger quantities.

How many wheelbarrow loads is one cubic yard of gravel?

One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet. If your wheelbarrow holds about 3 cubic feet, that works out to roughly 9 wheelbarrow loads; if it holds closer to 6 cubic feet, expect about 4 to 5 loads. Wheelbarrow capacity varies, so adjust based on your tool size.

How much pea gravel do I need for a 10-by-10-foot area?

It depends on depth: at 2 inches deep a 10x10 area needs about 0.62 cubic yards, and at 3 inches it needs about 0.93 to 1.0 cubic yard. Round up slightly to allow for settling and uneven spreading. Note that Hello Gravel has a minimum order amount (check current minimums for Jefferson County), so buying bags locally may be simpler for very small jobs.

How much area will a 50-pound bag of pea gravel cover?

A 50-pound bag is roughly 0.5 cubic feet of material. At a 1-inch depth it will cover about 5 square feet, and at a 1/2-inch depth about 10 square feet. Coverage changes with stone size and how tightly the material is compacted.

Can I lay gravel directly on soil in Jefferson County?

For short-term or decorative use you can lay gravel directly on soil, but for driveways, paths, or heavy-traffic areas we recommend a compacted aggregate base and optional landscape fabric. Jefferson County has areas with clay and seasonal freeze-thaw that can cause settling and potholes if you skip proper base preparation. Adding edging and a compacted base reduces migration and maintenance over time.

Is there a type of gravel that hardens like concrete?

Gravel alone does not harden like concrete, but mixes with fines such as crusher run or screenings can compact to a very firm surface. For a true hard surface consider stabilizing options like cement stabilization or resin-bound gravel, which bind the stones into a solid surface. These options cost more but provide a near-concrete finish while retaining a stone appearance.

What is #57 gravel and what is it used for?

#57 gravel is crushed stone about 3/4 inch in size and is one of the most commonly used aggregates. It works well for driveways, drainage applications, and as a component in concrete mixes because it compacts reasonably well while still allowing drainage. Local suppliers in Jefferson County may offer variations in color and angularity due to regional rock sources.
