Why East Hampton Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
East Hampton has a population of 17,110 and sits within a larger regional market that supports a metro area population of 2.3+ million. A steady growth rate of 0.40% annually suggests consistent, ongoing demand for home upgrades, repairs, and modest new construction rather than boom-level activity. With 228 sunny days per year and an annual rainfall of 33.50 inches in hardiness zone 8b, homeowners here need bulk materials that balance drainage, stability, and plant health. That means reliable sources for base materials, topsoil and planting mixes, drainage stone, and erosion-control supplies are important. Local sourcing matters: materials that match East Hampton’s geology and climate reduce rework, improve longevity, and perform better under repeated wet–dry cycles. As outdoor living, permeable surfaces, and low-maintenance landscaping continue to trend, having predictable access to quality aggregates and delivery can keep projects on schedule and on budget.Popular Projects in East Hampton This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - East Hampton Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in East Hampton.
Start by matching the material to function: drainage, load-bearing, finish appearance, or grading. Consider local climate and soil when choosing among gravel, sand, dirt, stone, and similar aggregates; for example, use coarser materials for drainage and finer materials for leveling or top dressing. If you are unsure, use Hello Gravel's material quiz or call our team for a recommendation based on your project size and site conditions.
Coastal exposure, sandy native soils, and freeze-thaw cycles are the main local factors to consider. Salt spray near the shore and wind-blown sand can affect appearance and long-term performance, while shallow or sandy soils influence compaction and drainage needs. Account for these when picking materials and planning base layers or geotextile underlayment.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide the depth you need in inches, then convert to cubic yards: (area x depth) / 324. Multiply cubic yards by a weight factor to estimate tons, keeping in mind different materials vary; a good rule of thumb is roughly 1.2 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard depending on material type. Use Hello Gravel's online calculator for an exact estimate and add 5-10% extra for compaction and waste.
Standard delivery is generally 2+ business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Many orders have free delivery, but costs can increase for long hauls, tight access, small loads under the minimum, or deliveries requiring special equipment. Check your zip code on our site to see local pricing and any potential surcharges for the East Hampton area.
Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of 3 tons and delivers by dump truck (typically tri-axle) via contracted local haulers. You can choose a delivery date at checkout, request tailgate spreading (driver discretion), and pay by major credit card or digital wallet. Special requests, tight driveways, or off-road placement may incur additional fees or require a different truck type.
Winter freeze, spring thaw, and wet seasons can delay deliveries and make sites difficult to work on, so plan larger landscape or grading projects for late spring through early fall when possible. Some materials compact or settle differently in cold or wet conditions, so timing affects final results and may require additional passes or materials. If you need quick turnaround in shoulder seasons, consider next-day delivery when available and allow extra time for site prep.
Permit needs vary by project: simple driveway resurfacing often does not require a permit, but curb cuts, new impermeable surfaces, large grading changes, or work near wetlands and coastal areas may. Always check with the East Hampton Town Building Department or zoning office before starting work, and ask us if you need documentation for delivery or disposal of excavated material. We can also schedule delivery around permit timelines if you share the details when ordering.
For drainage choose coarser, well-draining aggregates; for compaction and structural support pick denser, angular materials; for final surface aesthetics choose finer, uniform material. Gravel, sand, dirt, stone and similar products each have trade-offs in drainage, compaction, and look, so prioritize the primary function of the area (driveway, flower bed, patio base) and layer materials where needed. If unsure, describe the project to our team and we will suggest a multi-layer approach that balances drainage, stability, and appearance.
Provide clear delivery instructions, including best entry points, overhead clearances, and any tight turns or bridges the truck might encounter. Drivers will assess whether tailgate spreading is safe on arrival, but they are not required to perform spreading and may refuse if conditions are unsafe. If you need precise placement or spreading, consider renting equipment or hiring a local contractor and note these needs in Order Notes at checkout.
Regional sourcing and natural variation mean color, texture, and size can differ from photos and samples, especially in coastal areas like East Hampton. If the material is materially different than described, contact our customer service promptly with photos so we can help resolve the issue. We recommend adding color or texture preferences in Order Notes when possible, but exact matches cannot be guaranteed.
Contact us as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; modifications are easier before the supplier has dispatched the truck. We will make best efforts to accommodate requests, but changes cannot be guaranteed once the order is in process or on the truck. For major changes, be prepared for possible fees or timing impacts depending on supplier and hauler policies.
Expect standard industry terms: ordered by tons, minimum order around 3 tons, delivery by contracted dump trucks, and regional sourcing that reflects local geology. Additional terms may include delivery radius fees, staging or wait time charges, and extra costs for difficult access or small loads; ask for a written quote that lists any potential surcharges. Contractors can streamline repeat orders by providing jobsite access instructions and account details ahead of delivery.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
