Why Trinity Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Trinity is a growing community with a city population of 14,230 and an annual growth rate of 2.80%. The local climate—an annual rainfall of 34.00 inches, about 228 sunny days per year, and placement in hardiness zone 8b—supports steady residential development and landscaping activity. Those conditions, combined with ongoing growth in the surrounding metro area (metro area population of 2.3+ million), create steady demand for reliable fill and grading work: homeowners and contractors are frequently raising grades, backfilling foundations, and preparing yards for patios, driveways, and drainage improvements. That demand makes quality, regionally sourced aggregates important: homeowners want material that compacts well, resists settling, and performs in Trinity’s mix of rain and sun. Fill Dirt is a practical, cost-effective subsoil used to raise low spots, backfill foundations, and create stable bases under slabs and driveways. In Trinity’s climate—with 34.00 inches of annual rainfall and plenty of sun—selecting a fill dirt that sheds water, compacts uniformly, and is low in organic material helps reduce erosion and future settling. Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers and professional dump-truck delivery, giving clear pricing, scheduled delivery windows, and local sourcing so your fill dirt matches regional soil conditions. Request tailgate spreading at checkout and contact our team for guidance on material selection and timing.Popular Projects in Trinity This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Trinity Fill Dirt Delivery
Everything you need to know about fill dirt delivery in Trinity.
Delivered fill dirt prices in Trinity vary by supplier, screening level, and distance, but expect roughly $15 to $40 per ton or about $200 to $500 per tri-axle truckload (10–14 tons). Screened or guaranteed clean fill costs toward the higher end, and tailgate spreading or next-day delivery adds fees. We recommend getting a local quote through Hello Gravel to see exact pricing for your zip code.
For structural uses like driveway elevation, use clean, low-organic fill dirt that compacts well; mix or cap it with crushed stone for improved drainage. For landscaping and raised beds, choose screened fill or a mix of screened topsoil over fill dirt so plants have organic material. Because Trinity sits on Piedmont clay, avoid high-organic or root-filled fill in load-bearing spots where shrink-swell could cause settling.
Properly placed fill dirt compacted in thin lifts (4–8 inches) will achieve good density, but native clay-rich fill can be prone to surface runoff and freeze-thaw heave. For sites that see heavy rain, add a drainage layer (gravel), slope the area away from structures, and consider geotextile fabric to limit washout. For critical bases, combine fill dirt with a crushed stone subbase and mechanical compaction for best long-term performance.
Use the formula: cubic yards = area (ft2) × depth (ft) ÷ 27. For a 2-car driveway about 20 ft by 20 ft (400 ft2) raised 6 inches (0.5 ft) you need 400×0.5÷27 ≈ 7.4 cubic yards, which is roughly 9–10 tons of fill dirt (1 cubic yard ≈ 1.2 tons). Order 10–20% extra to allow for compaction and grading, so plan for about 11–12 tons for that example.
Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers and contracted haulers who deliver fill dirt; many suppliers also offer optional spreading but drivers perform tailgate spreading at their discretion. Standard delivery lead time is 2+ business days, with next-day available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee; for spreading and compaction you may need to book a local landscaper or equipment rental separately. If you need help lining up spreading and compaction, contact our sales team and we can suggest local partners when available.
Screened fill dirt is usually better for foundations and utility trenches because it is more consistent, compacts uniformly, and reduces the chance of voids or settling. Unscreened fill is less expensive and fine for large bulk fills where exact compaction or finish is not critical, but it may contain roots, large clods, or debris that make compaction and settling unpredictable. For any structural or buried utilities in Trinity’s clay soils, choose screened material or have the fill tested and mechanically compacted.
If properly compacted and paired with a suitable surface (crushed stone or pavement), fill dirt used to build grade can last many years as a subbase, but pure fill dirt at the surface will tend to settle and erode and may need regrading every few seasons. Regular maintenance includes regrading low spots, topping with additional aggregate, maintaining drainage, and keeping vegetation off structural areas. For a long-lasting driveway base, use fill dirt for elevation combined with a crushed stone base and periodic attention to drainage.
Fill dirt is best when your goal is to add bulk and raise grade because it is inexpensive and compacts well but has low organic matter so it is poor for planting. Crushed stone is the best option when you need drainage and a stable base—use it under walkways, driveways, or drainage swales. Topsoil is necessary where you want to grow plants; a common approach is fill with clean fill dirt for bulk, then add 4–6 inches of topsoil for planting.
Permitting rules vary by project size and location; small deliveries for yard grading often do not require a city permit, but larger grading, erosion control, or changes to drainage can trigger permits from the City of Trinity or Randolph County. If your work affects streams, stormwater flow, or is part of a subdivision or commercial project, contact Trinity Planning and Zoning or Randolph County to confirm requirements before you start. Also check for HOA rules that may restrict visible grading or truck access.
Common concerns include rooty organic material, large clay clods, construction debris, and oversized rocks; these reduce material quality and complicate compaction. Screened or certified clean fill eliminates many contaminants but costs more; unscreened bulk fill is cheaper but may require extra labor, screening, or import of better material. Ask suppliers for a description or photo of the material, request screened fill if you need consistent compaction, and factor any screening or testing fees into your project estimate.
