Why Edmonton Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Edmonton's city population of 5,500 sits inside a larger metro area of 2.7+ million, and a steady growth rate of 1.20% annually signals steady demand for new homes, driveways, and yard upgrades. With 228 sunny days per year and an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches in hardiness zone 8b, local projects balance dry-season work with attention to seasonal runoff. That mix means homeowners need a range of bulk materials—well-graded fill and topsoil for planting beds, sand and gravel for patios and paths, and heavier aggregates for driveways and drainage trenches. Quality and correct gradation matter here: proper materials reduce erosion, improve drainage, and cut down on rework as yards settle or vegetation establishes, so planning quantities and timing up front makes projects more predictable and durable.Popular Projects in Edmonton This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Edmonton Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Edmonton.
There is no one-size-fits-all material; the best choice depends on traffic, budget, and desired look. Generally, materials like gravel, crushed stone, and compacted dirt are common for rural driveways because they shed water and are easy to maintain. Consider drainage, a compacted base, and a slightly crowned surface to reduce rutting and potholes over time.
Delivery cost varies with material type, quantity, distance from the supplier, and site access rather than the city alone. Expect fees for long drives, tight access, or next-day delivery; minimum orders and quantity discounts also affect price. The fastest way to get an accurate cost is to request a quote with your zip code, quantity, and preferred delivery date.
Materials that drain well and lock together tend to perform better in freeze-thaw conditions, so choose products with good angular shape and proper grading. Equally important is a well-prepared base, adequate drainage, and proper compaction to limit movement when soils expand and contract. Regional sourcing means materials reflect local geology, so ask about local performance when you order gravel, sand, dirt, or stone.
Spring through fall is usually the easiest time to schedule and work with bulk materials, because ground conditions are more stable and weather delays are less likely. Deliveries are available year-round in many areas, but winter weather and frozen ground can complicate placement and spreading. If you need material quickly, ask about next-day options and plan for potential seasonal fees or delays.
Yes, many local suppliers and contracted haulers deliver to rural properties around Edmonton, but access and distance can affect availability and price. Narrow lanes, low-hanging wires, and soft shoulders may limit truck placement or require additional fees. Provide clear site notes and photos when ordering so suppliers can plan the safest delivery approach.
Measure the area in square feet, decide on the desired depth in inches, convert to cubic yards (area x depth in feet ÷ 27), and then convert cubic yards to tons if needed using a material-specific factor. Many customers use an online material calculator or ask our team for help to avoid overordering or underordering. Remember to add a small extra allowance for compaction and grading.
Some local suppliers and contractors offer installation or spreading services in addition to delivery, but availability varies by supplier and site conditions. Hello Gravel connects customers with local vendors, and you can request installation options in the Order Notes or ask our team to check for providers who offer that service. Keep in mind that spreading is often at the contractor or driver's discretion and may carry additional charges.
Consider drainage, slope, foot and vehicle traffic, maintenance needs, desired appearance, and local climate when choosing materials. Also factor in longevity, how easy the material is to replenish or regrade, and any homeowner association or local code requirements. Because materials are regionally sourced, ask about color and texture variations and how they perform locally.
Prices depend on processing, screening, availability, and transportation rather than the material name alone; processed aggregates typically cost more than unprocessed fill. Delivery distance, seasonality, and truck access also influence final cost, so comparing line-item quotes is the best approach. We recommend requesting multiple quotes for the materials you're considering to compare total delivered cost.
Both have valid uses: gravel and crushed stone provide stability and drainage for driveways, paths, and beds, while sand is useful for leveling under pavers and for compacted base layers. Think about function first: choose materials that handle drainage, foot traffic, and maintenance needs for your specific project. If unsure, our material quiz or sales team can help match the right product to your walkway or landscape plan.
Deliveries are typically made by dump truck and customers can choose a delivery date during checkout; standard delivery usually takes 2+ business days with next-day available for orders placed before noon CST. Provide clear access instructions, watch for overhead obstructions, and mark the preferred drop zone; tailgate spreading may be possible but is at the driver's discretion. Minimum order sizes and local restrictions may apply, so confirm details when you place your order.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible with your order number; changes are easiest before the order is processed or dispatched. If there is an issue after delivery, provide photos and a description so we can work with the supplier and hauler to resolve it. We will make a best effort to accommodate requests and explain next steps based on our refund and resolution policies.
