Why Burlington Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Burlington’s city population is 22,240, and it sits inside a growing regional economy whose metro area population totals 2.7+ million. A steady 1.20% annual growth rate signals ongoing housing and infrastructure demand rather than a boom or bust — steady project volume for homeowners and contractors alike. With 228 sunny days per year and annual rainfall of 34.25 inches in hardiness zone 8b, local projects need materials that balance drainage and moisture retention. That means thinking broadly about aggregates, soils, sands, mulches, and imported fills: homeowners are increasingly choosing materials that control runoff, reduce maintenance, and support plantings that thrive in the local climate. Quality bulk materials reduce rework, improve curb appeal, and help new construction and landscaping last in Burlington’s specific conditions.Popular Projects in Burlington This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Burlington Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Burlington.
Choose based on use, drainage needs, load-bearing requirements, and appearance. Consider whether the area needs to shed water, carry vehicle traffic, or support plants, then pick from gravel, sand, dirt, stone options that match those needs. Budget and local climate are also important, and our material calculator or sales team can help refine the choice. Always test a small area if appearance is a priority since regional sourcing causes variation.
Burlington's seasonal freeze-thaw cycles and rainfall can influence settling, drainage, and erosion of outdoor materials. Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone perform differently in wet conditions—some drain better, others compact and resist frost heave. Design with drainage and slope control in mind, and choose materials suited to local soil and moisture conditions. Adding a proper base and drainage layer can improve long-term performance.
We serve Burlington and surrounding West Kentucky zip codes—check your ZIP at checkout to confirm availability. Minimum orders start at 3 tons, standard delivery takes 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries arrive by dump truck (typically tri-axle); we offer transparent pricing and many areas qualify for free delivery. Tailgate spreading is optional and done at the driver's discretion if requested at checkout.
Late spring through early fall is the most popular time for exterior projects to avoid frozen ground and heavy winter rains. Early spring or late fall can work for many jobs but expect wetter conditions and possible delays. Schedule well in advance for busy months and use our calendar to pick a preferred delivery date. For projects sensitive to weather, consider buffer days in your timeline.
Quantities vary by area and depth, but typical ranges help plan: small garden beds and planters often need 1-3 cubic yards (about 1.5-4.5 tons), a backyard patio base might need 2-5 cubic yards (about 3-7.5 tons), and driveway resurfacing can range from 3-15 tons depending on size and depth. These are rough estimates—use our material calculator or contact our sales team with project dimensions for a tailored estimate. Remember that different materials have different weights per cubic yard, so ton estimates can vary.
Local cities, Boone County, and neighborhood HOAs can have rules on driveway materials, visible front-yard surfaces, and stormwater management, so check zoning and HOA guidelines before ordering. Simple garden beds often need no permits, but changes to driveways, curb cuts, or significant grading may require permits or inspections. If you are unsure, contact the city planning office or your HOA to confirm requirements before purchasing. We can also advise on common local considerations, but you should verify official rules.
Compare materials by performance: drainage (how quickly water passes through), compaction (stability under load), erosion resistance, appearance, and maintenance needs. For example, choose materials that drain well for low spots, denser materials for driveways, and lighter soils for planting areas. Factor in cost and availability, and consider local climate impacts such as freeze-thaw cycles. Our team can help match material characteristics to your project's priorities.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading as a courtesy when conditions and safety allow, but this service is discretionary and not guaranteed. Full grading, compaction, and precision spreading are best handled by contractors with the right equipment, and many customers arrange those services separately. You can request spreading at checkout and note site restrictions, but plan for contractor services for larger or more technical jobs. We can connect you with local haulers or recommend hiring professionals for complex tasks.
Clear the delivery area of obstacles, mark underground utilities and sprinkler lines, and provide a clear, level approach for the dump truck to avoid damage. Inform us about tight access, overhead wires, or weight-restricted driveways in the order notes and by sending photos if possible. Protect lawns and hardscapes with plywood or boards if the truck must cross sensitive surfaces, and designate the preferred drop location. Communicate any site constraints early so the driver can plan the safest delivery.
Natural materials vary by region, so color and texture can differ from photos; if you have appearance concerns, add notes to your order or contact our team before delivery. To change or cancel, contact customer service as soon as possible—changes are easiest before the order is processed or dispatched. We will work to resolve issues and can explain the refund policy and next steps if something goes wrong. Prompt communication helps us find the best solution quickly.
