Why Dallas Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Dallas homeowners: Dallas has a city population of 16,820 and sits inside a metro area of 2.3+ million, with steady development driven by a 2.80% annual growth rate. The local climate—about 228 sunny days a year and 34.00 inches of rainfall—combined with hardiness zone 8b, creates a mix of sun- and rain-driven landscape needs. That growth and climate translate into steady demand for grading, foundation backfill, drainage work, and landscape grading projects. Homeowners and contractors look for reliable aggregates that compact well, resist settling, and support mowing and planting beds while helping control erosion during heavy rains. Quality Fill Dirt is often the foundation step in any project that changes grade or builds up low spots, so choosing the right source and delivery schedule matters for long-term performance.Popular Projects in Dallas This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Dallas Fill Dirt Delivery
Everything you need to know about fill dirt delivery in Dallas.
Local delivered prices for fill dirt in the Dallas, NC area typically range from about $10 to $30 per ton depending on supplier, distance, and whether you meet minimum order quantities. Seasonal demand, truck access challenges, and small orders can push per-ton prices higher, so check Hello Gravel for an exact quote for your zip code and delivery date.
Yes. In West North Carolina, demand usually increases in spring and summer, which can raise prices and shorten lead times, and heavy rain seasons can limit deliveries to sites with poor access. Plan larger projects early, allow extra lead time after storms, and request delivery windows when you place your order on Hello Gravel.
Hello Gravel generally requires a 3-ton minimum order; most local haulers deliver by tri-axle dump truck, so expect a single large truck rather than small pickups. Ensure at least a 10-12 foot clear delivery path, confirm overhead clearance, stable ground for truck weight, and note any street-parking or driveway permit needs in Order Notes at checkout.
Dallas sits in the Piedmont with humid subtropical weather and seasonally heavy rains, so poorly draining, clay-rich fill can hold water and cause settlement or soggy lawns. Use compactable fill in 6-8 inch lifts with proper moisture and compaction, avoid placing uncompacted fill over wet organic layers, and consider adding a gravel layer or geotextile where drainage or frost heave are concerns.
For yard grading and general raising of grade, a free-draining, compactable fill dirt (clean fill with minimal organic material) is appropriate; for driveways and structural base work, use crushed stone or class II road base instead of straight fill dirt. Septic systems typically require sand or granular backfill per county codes, so check Gaston County requirements and ask Hello Gravel to match a supplier with the right spec for septic backfill.
A good rule: 1 cubic yard of fill dirt weighs about 1.2 to 1.4 tons depending on moisture. Examples: to raise 1,000 sq ft by 3 inches you need about 9.3 cubic yards (≈11 to 13 tons); to add 3 inches to a 12 ft x 100 ft driveway is about 11.1 cubic yards (≈13 to 15 tons); a 20 ft x 20 ft pad at 6 inches is about 7.4 cubic yards (≈9 to 10 tons). Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact our team to get a precise estimate for your project.
Possibly. Local rules vary: Gaston County or the town of Dallas may require permits for large grading, driveway work, or changes to stormwater flow, and many HOAs have rules about visible soil stockpiles or driveway access. Check your HOA rules and contact Gaston County zoning or Hello Gravel's customer service before scheduling a large delivery.
Fill dirt is intended for raising grade and landscaping and is not a structural surface material; crushed stone and class II road base provide drainage, load-bearing capacity, and a stable surface for driveways. In the Piedmont with clay soils common around Dallas, NC, use a stone base under driveways and erosion-prone slopes, and reserve fill dirt for building up low areas and lawn grading.
Pick a clear drop zone, note gate codes and low branches in Order Notes, and schedule delivery allowing for 2+ business days or next-day (if eligible) to match local hauler availability. If you need spreading, request tailgate spreading at checkout but expect the driver to assess feasibility on arrival, and contact Hello Gravel if access or permits could affect delivery.
