Why King County Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
King County has a population of 2.3+ million, and sits within a metro area of 2.4+ million—conditions that support steady housing and infrastructure activity rather than boom‑and‑bust swings. That steady growth, at a rate of 0.69% annually, translates into consistent demand for landscaping and construction materials across neighborhoods and suburbs. The region’s temperate profile (Hardiness Zone 8b) with moderate annual rainfall of 33.90 inches and about 228/year sunny days means projects must balance wet‑season drainage and erosion control with surfaces that perform during extended dry periods. Homeowners here commonly need a mix of well‑draining base materials, engineered fills, topsoil blends, and organic mulches to support plantings, patios, walkways, and stormwater solutions. Because local geology affects texture and color, sourcing regionally helps ensure materials match both aesthetic and functional expectations.Popular Projects in King County This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - King County Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in King County.
Costs vary by material, quantity, and delivery distance, but most homeowners pay for the material by the ton plus any delivery fee. Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum and often offers free delivery in many areas, though long-distance or next-day requests may add charges. For an accurate estimate, use our online quote tool or contact our team with your zip code and project details.
In King County's wet, temperate climate, aim to schedule major earthwork and paving between late spring and early fall when soils are firmer and drainage is better. If you must work in the wet season, plan for extra drying time, order less material at a time, and allow flexible delivery windows. Always check local forecasts before setting a firm delivery date.
Choose materials that shed water and compact well for load-bearing areas, and use more permeable options for drainage zones; options include a range of gravel, sand, dirt, and crushed stone varieties. For lawns and beds, look for materials that help with moisture control and plant health while reflecting local soil conditions. Consider combining materials (base, leveling, and finish layers) to get both stability and proper drainage.
Suppliers and haulers serving King County typically cover Seattle, nearby suburbs, and many unincorporated areas, but service can vary by supplier and zip code. Hello Gravel connects you with local providers based on your zip code, so check availability for your exact address. Longer drives or deliveries to remote sites may incur extra fees or longer lead times.
Permit needs depend on the project scope and local jurisdiction; simple deliveries for landscaping usually do not require a permit, but larger grading, retaining walls, or changes to drainage may. Always check with King County or your city planning department before starting work, especially if you are altering slopes, wetlands, or public right-of-way areas. If a permit is required, schedule deliveries to align with approved timelines.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Availability can vary seasonally and by material, so order early for large projects or during busy months. We will confirm a delivery window when your order is scheduled.
Prioritize materials that promote proper runoff routing and infiltration where needed, and consider grades, drainage outlets, and vegetation to prevent erosion. Using a mix of base material and surface material can stabilize slopes and paths while allowing water to pass where desired. If you have steep or sensitive areas, consult a pro to choose the right combination of materials and erosion controls.
Suppliers and Hello Gravel use volume calculations based on the area and depth you provide, converting cubic yards to tons using regional density estimates for gravel, sand, dirt, and stone. Our online calculator and order form ask for project dimensions and desired depth to produce an estimate, but field measurements can improve accuracy. It is common to add a small overage percentage to account for compaction and settling.
Different aggregates offer trade-offs in appearance, drainage, compaction, and cost; some are better for load-bearing base layers while others serve as decorative or drainage surfaces. Gravel, sand, dirt, and stone each play roles depending on whether you need structural support, fine leveling, filtration, or curb appeal. Match material choice to the project function—paths, patios, and beds each have different ideal properties.
Next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee, subject to supplier availability and local truck schedules. Same-day deliveries are less common and depend on local yard stock and truck routing, so call our team early in the day to explore options. Keep in mind that short-notice requests may have higher fees and limited material choices.
Deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets, typically tri-axle trucks, and drivers will place material where truck access and safety allow; tailgate spreading may be available at the driver’s discretion. Provide clear delivery notes and site access instructions at checkout, and remove obstacles from the drop area to avoid delays. If you need special placement or spreading, request it ahead of time and allow for possible limitations on the day of delivery.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
