Why Detour Village Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Detour Village (population 303) is a small but active community where a steady growth rate of 1.20% annually translates into ongoing home projects, incremental new builds, and regular maintenance work rather than rapid development. That steady demand means homeowners and local contractors prioritize durable, versatile materials that perform across seasons. With 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, the climate supports a wide range of plantings but also requires attention to drainage and erosion control. In practice this drives interest in reliable bulk supplies—topsoil and compost for raised beds, stable base materials for driveways and paths, and well-graded aggregates for drainage trenches. Regional sourcing matters here: local geology affects texture, color, and compaction behavior, so choosing quality materials that match local conditions reduces rework and improves long-term performance for typical Detour Village projects.Popular Projects in Detour Village This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Detour Village Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Detour Village.
Start with the job: do you need drainage, structural support, a finished surface, or planting soil? Consider the material properties that match that purpose—drainage, compaction, and durability—and remember regional variations mean local mixes of gravel, sand, dirt, stone may look or behave differently. Use our material calculator and aggregate quiz or contact our team for recommendations based on your project and site conditions.
In Detour Village’s climate, drainage, compaction, and freeze-thaw resistance are the most important factors to consider. Look for mixes with the right amount of fines for compaction, proper particle size for drainage, and materials sourced for local conditions. These traits influence how gravel, sand, dirt, stone will perform over time.
Choose materials based on function: structural bases need well-graded, compactable mixes; top layers benefit from angular, stable aggregates; planting beds and topsoil need looser, organic-rich dirt. For backfill, pick a material that compacts well and sheds water away from foundations. If you are unsure, describe the project to our team so we can suggest options using gravel, sand, dirt, stone.
Use our online material calculator for the most accurate estimate by entering area and depth. As a general guideline, 1 cubic yard of aggregate translates roughly to about 1 to 1.5 tons depending on the material and moisture content, so check calculations for your chosen mix of gravel, sand, dirt, stone. When in doubt, round up slightly to allow for compaction and grading waste.
Late spring through early fall is usually the best window for deliveries and installation because soils are drier and compaction and grading work more reliably. Avoid scheduling major installs on frozen ground or immediately after heavy rains when the site may be soft. If you need material outside those months, plan for extra drying, grading, or storage time.
Rural deliveries can be affected by long or narrow driveways, soft shoulders, low-hanging branches, culverts, and posted road weight limits. Our deliveries use contracted dump trucks (typically tri-axle) and require clear access and room to turn. Provide detailed delivery notes and photos at checkout so haulers can assess whether they can safely drop material at your location.
Clear the drop area of vehicles, garden items, and pets, and mark any no-drop zones, utilities, or fragile landscapes. Ensure entrance gates are unlocked and overhead obstacles removed, and confirm there is enough room for a large truck to turn and park. Consider placing plywood or mats if the ground is soft, and communicate any restrictions or preferred drop locations in the order notes.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion and if site conditions allow, but this service is not guaranteed. Request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess safety upon arrival; for precise grading or finished surfaces, hire a local contractor. Always plan for possible minimal spreading and allow for additional labor if you need a finished look.
Local rules on road weight limits, driveway permits, and culvert requirements vary, so check with Detour Village or Luce County public works before ordering large deliveries. Some roads or seasonal weight restrictions may require permits or alternative drop locations. If you expect restrictions, note them on your order and contact our team so we can coordinate with local haulers.
Because Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, texture, color, and exact gradation can vary based on local geology. Photos are illustrative; expect natural variation in any mix of gravel, sand, dirt, stone. You can add color or texture preferences in your order notes, and our team can help set expectations for what is common in the area.
We show transparent pricing in checkout and require a minimum order of 3 tons. Standard delivery is 2+ business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee; exact availability depends on your zip code. Free delivery applies in many areas but confirm final fees and timing at checkout.
Contact our customer team as soon as possible—changes are easiest before the order is processed or dispatched and we will do our best to accommodate requests. Modifications or cancellations depend on supplier and hauler scheduling, so earlier notice improves the chances we can help. If you have issues after delivery, contact customer service for next steps and our resolution process.
