Why Wood River Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Wood River is a community of 8,740 residents and part of a metro area of 2.6+ million, growing at 1.20% annually. That steady expansion translates into consistent demand for home improvements, outdoor living upgrades, and small-scale infill construction rather than sudden booms. With 228/year sunny days, 35.50 inches of annual rainfall, and placement in hardiness zone 8b, local projects must balance sun exposure with occasional heavy rains and a mild-but-variable winter season. For homeowners that means choosing bulk materials that manage water, resist washout, and tolerate strong sun—think well-graded base materials for driveways and patios, sand and gravel mixes for drainage, clean topsoil and mulch for planting beds, and durable stone for edging and paths. Those trends point to steady orders across a range of aggregates and soils as residents invest in outdoor durability, low-maintenance landscaping, and water-smart installations.Popular Projects in Wood River This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Wood River Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Wood River.
Start by matching the material's function to your project: base and drainage needs, surface finish, and expected traffic. Consider regional factors like freeze-thaw and drainage in Wood River when deciding between denser, compactable materials and looser surface aggregates; gravel, sand, dirt, stone all behave differently under heavy use. Use our material calculator or contact our team to compare options and get a recommendation based on your project size and site conditions.
Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of 3 tons. Standard delivery is usually 2+ business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Final pricing and any delivery fees depend on your exact zip code and access conditions, so check your zip (for example 62095) at checkout for specifics.
Wood River's seasonal freeze-thaw cycles and local soils can cause settling, frost heave, and drainage challenges. For long-term performance choose materials and depths that promote good drainage and allow for winter movement; compactable base materials perform better under freeze-thaw than loose surfaces. If you have known floodplain or poorly draining areas, plan for additional base depth or drainage features before ordering materials.
Late spring through early fall is generally the easiest for delivery and installation because ground is drier and crews can work without frequent freeze-thaw interruptions. Avoid heavy rains or freeze-thaw transitions when possible, as wet conditions make spreading and compaction harder and can lead to settling. If you need winter delivery, expect potential delays and discuss handling and access with our team.
Many simple landscaping projects do not require permits, but driveways, drainage changes, retaining walls, or work in public right-of-way may. Always check with Wood River city hall, your local zoning office, and any HOA rules before you start, and secure required permits before delivery. If a permit is needed, schedule material delivery after permits are approved to avoid rework.
Deliveries are typically made by dump trucks, most commonly tri-axle trucks, so allow for about 35-45 feet of backup space and enough turning room or a safe drop-off area. Provide clear delivery instructions, note overhead obstructions like low branches or wires, and ensure the delivery surface can support a loaded truck. If access is tight, contact our team to discuss alternate drop locations or offloading options.
Typical orders vary by project: small garden beds or mulching jobs are often 1-3 cubic yards (roughly 1.5-4 tons), patios and walkways commonly use 3-6 cubic yards (roughly 4-8 tons), and 2-car driveways often require 10-20 cubic yards (roughly 12-28 tons) depending on depth and base design. Use our material calculator for a site-specific estimate and round up slightly to account for settling and grading adjustments.
Because Hello Gravel sources regionally, texture and color can vary based on local geology, so samples or photos are a good idea if appearance matters. We describe materials by size and use rather than exact color, and you can note color preferences at checkout; however exact matches to photos are not guaranteed. If appearance is critical, contact our sales team to discuss available options and arrange a sample or site visit if needed.
You can request tailgate spreading at checkout, but drivers perform it only at their discretion based on safety, site conditions, and load type. We do not guarantee spreading services, so plan for additional labor or equipment if you require precise placing or spreading. Always include clear instructions in Order Notes and discuss any special needs with customer service before delivery.
Common delays include poor access (soft ground, narrow driveways), weather, permit or HOA hold-ups, and last-minute order changes. To avoid problems, confirm access dimensions, secure permits in advance, schedule delivery for dry conditions when possible, and contact our team immediately if you need to modify your order. We will do our best to accommodate changes but early communication improves outcomes.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible by phone or through your order confirmation; changes are easiest before the order is dispatched. If there is an issue after delivery, report it promptly and include photos and details so we can work with the local supplier and hauler to address the situation. See our customer service guidance for timelines and next steps, and review our refund policy if applicable.
You can pay online with major credit cards, PayPal, or Apple Pay during checkout and choose your preferred delivery date from available options. If you need help selecting a date or calculating quantities, contact our sales team for guidance.
